This is to the people in the first 10 rows tonight...
I still can't believe you. Do you have any idea how rude / inconsiderate / disrespectful that was? Being fans of a band that is definitively Canadian, after tonight I can say for the first time that I was ashamed to be from Canada. I have no idea how you can practically boo one of the most original and creative and AMAZING groups in the country off the stage, just so you can see your precious Hip 5 minutes sooner (even though they came on 20 minutes late, but that's beside the fact).
I had an amazing time tonight regardless, but I was very disappointed with the crowd.
If you have any constructive criticism other than "you suck," "The Weakerthans suck," or "fuck either of us," I'd love to hear it, but until then Hip fans have been labelled as assholes.

"It's not the band I hate it's their fans"
There is a reason that line was penned, although, not all hip fans fall into that catagory, I mean look at the folks here. Hopefully nobody from Hipbase would boo another band off stage, especially if they realize the Hip personally select their openers, and that these opening bands are usually friends with the Hip.

Judging by the reactions from the people who posted in the concert review section, tonights crowd was pretty rowdy. I'd be surprised if any Hipbasers would do something like that, too bad.

It was incredibly rude. I cheered and clapped for every song. Yes we are there to see the Hip but these guys are out there, putting themselves out there on stage and there are the drunken frat boys yelling HIP HIP HIP while the weakerthans are still on. They put on a great show and thats the thanks they get? At least the lead singer put on a happy face afterwards when he joined the crowd to watch the hip, and people were coming up to him telling him what a good show it was. I was impressed by them and I am going out tomorrow to buy their cd. Thats the least I can do to try and make up for the ignorance of others.

A bunch of us Hipbasers were standing near the soundboard while this was happening, and we all discussed our disappointment at the behavoir of a few... and how tough it must be for a band to open for The Hip.

Who boos the Weakerthens? At guelph lake there was like 3 people booing them, and they got put in their place quickly by everyone else.
I'm pretty sure that booing opening bands is a cool thing for 16 year olds to do, but anyone older than that should be ashamed, and be forced to listen to left and leaving 30 times.

that is really to bad. i have enjoyed all the opening acts that i've seen with the hip. it for the most part gives me a chance to hear something i normally wouldn't. i can truely say i have enjoyed a solid 90% of the hip opening acts over the years, and the ones (i won't say they suck, just wasn't for me) that i didn't like, i would never think to boooo them. if someone did not like the job i was doing, and they boooournsed me, i'd probably hit them in the jaw! i save my boooooing for leaf games......................... Fuckin' leafs, god what a sad year!

I'm not a Weakerthens fan (but seeing them 3 times this week might start to change that)... but it was disappointing to see how they got treated by a couple of idiots. I don't mind hearing the HIP chant before they take the stage or before the encore but it sucks when the other bands are playing.

Thanks guys, I figured you weren't all bad. I should have also pointed out that I was being harassed as well, for being the only person in the front row singing along / enjoying myself. I wouldn't have minded if it was just a few drunk kids doing it, but during "Left and Leaving" it definitely got up to around 50-100 people. It's a shame they cut their set short, I could see John K. saying "Manifest" (their last song) to the other guys after only about 35 minutes, as if implying "lets get out of here before we start getting stuff thrown at us." I'm going to see them in Buffalo on July 9 with The New Amsterdams if anyone is interested.

Anyone remember Molson Park in 1994? People were throwing empty water bottles at the stage at Daniel Lanois. Daniel Lanois....one of Canada's most talented artists ever. How disrepectful. He actually stopped in the middle of a song and said that if the crowd didn't chill out, he'd walk off the stage. Unfortunately he too, was the act right before the Hip. How stupid are these people....if you disrespect the acts the Hip choose for openers, in a sense you're also disrespecting the Hip guys.
I hope its not like that tonight.

Ya, they Opened with Our Retired Explorer, followed by Watermark, which I guessed you also missed.
There was only a little booing, more random "you suck / get off the stage". The worst part by far was watching them trying to keep the beat during Left and Leaving while "Hip" kept accelerating.
