Anybody familiar with this site? I love a good rumor as much as the next guy, and its a fun way to pass time in the off season.. but I think Eklund is trying to give me a heart attack with some of today's rumors..

-50/50 chance Lecavalier wants out of Tampa Bay and he will only go to Montreal
-Saku Koivu has convinced Teemu Selanne to come play in Montreal
-Montreal is preparing a major offer for Mats Sundin, he doesnt want to go back to Toronto apparently.

YIKES!! Lecavalier, Sundin and Selanne (an old selanne but still..) I hope you have good sources for those Ek, Im dreaming. Lecavalier, Sundin, Koivu and Plekanec down the middle..that would be insane! There might be a bit of truth to all those rumors but all of them happening, Toronto has a better chance of winning the cup next year than that happening. Its still nice to dream sometimes, thanks for playing on my emoitions!

If anybody loves rumors and hockey blogs its a site worth checking out, Eklund (as he's known) seems to have alot of inside info and posts alot of interesting things.

Speaking of rumors, the Leaf blogger for The Score has Sundin going to the Pens next year: http://www.thescore.ca/sixpack/index.as ... atID=Leafs

Ya, I check that sight on a daily basis.

Its fun to keep up with the circulating daily rumors, but Eklund does not seem to have any more "inside information" than any other rumor site. Fun to read, but needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

And as far as Sundin goes................when he wouldn't waive his NTC because of his "loyalty" to this team and we missed out on probably a boat load of draft picks and prospects (similar to what Hossa fetched), I was really po'ed at the guy at first. But the more I thought about it, the more I actually respected the guy. It is not too often you would see loyalty like that and I thought this guy truly did bleed blue and white inside.

But, if he ends up going to another team now I will have lost all respect for him. Everything he did at the trade dead line will have made zero sense.

But until that time comes, I really find it hard to believe that he does not want to come back to Toronto. In my mind he will do one of two things, either retire or be back in the blue and white.....

[skippy the wonder dog]

Sundin had a no trade clause. The team, fans and Toronto media had no right to expect him to waive a clause in his contract -- a contract is a contract.

Pretty simple, really. And if I was in his shoes now, I'd walk just to give the fans, media and team the finger for forgetting what a contract is.

I do agree to a point,

I can fully understand Sundin being sick of the Toronto fans and media. They are relentless and completely foolish at times

But with everything he said about how much he wanted to retire hear and how much he never wanted to play for another team...........I just thought he did mean that. I don't blame him for not waiving his NTC, he had every right not to do so, but don't blow smoke up the fans asses while you do it.

But Sundin is another story, he was playing a great season and our only true valuable asset. What pissed me off even more were the others that would not waive thier NTC even though they were not playing even close to what their contract was worth. Granted that was part their fault and part Ferguson's fault.

NTC's are going to be the downfall of the league if not dealt with properly. I think a rule shoud state that "A team must be in a play-off position at the trade deadline or a NTC is null and void"............well something to that effect anyways

Be serious.

If Sundin says to the media, "I've decided not to waive my no-trade clause because it is my right to do so, and I'm looking out for number one," can you imagine the backlash?

I think a rule shoud state that "A team must be in a play-off position at the trade deadline or a NTC is null and void"

Then it wouldn't be a no-trade clause. Furthermore, you can't make a rule retroactively to alter the terms of a contract.

A contract is a contract. Asking a player to waive his NTC is equivalent to a player approaching the team, while still under contract, and threatening not to score goals unless they give him extra money.

Man Skip, you're in a fightin' mood the past couple days........

I was just giving an opinion, didn't mean it as a legally binding concept.

All I was trying to say is that a player should have to live up to a certain potential to even have the option of a NTC. If a player signs a NTC and then just sits back to rake in the money, there should be some sort of out in the contract.........not sure exactly what though.

If bonuses can be placed in a contract for a players performance, well there should be some sort of option to place in the opposite side as well.......somehow, just not sure how. For instance Kaberle's contract states that if they miss the play-offs for two (or I guess it must be 3) consecutive seasons, then his NTC is no longer in effect and can be dealt.........

I don't know, its just a thought, I am not a lawyer (although I play on on t.v.)

I think all of his comments about the Leafs not being his only option, while 100% true, are merely a negotiation ploy. If he gets lo-balled by the "interim" GM, he'll retire. If he gets something to make another season of missing the playoffs financially worthwhilehe'll play another season.

[skippy the wonder dog]

Well, ya get what you negotiate. The Leafs are in a pickle because they handed out NTCs and money like candy.

Sundin actually deserves the good contract.

[cferneyh]

Well, ya get what you negotiate. The Leafs are in a pickle because they handed out NTCs and money like candy.

The Leafs are hardly alone in that regard. There are well over 100 NTCs today, and I'll guarantee you that every UFA that signs a contract this summer will be getting one. NTCs are simply a cost of doing business with UFAs. The Leafs' problem - well, one of many - is that they simply went after the wrong UFAs.

No Trade Clauses are going to be the major issue at the table when the next strike happens..........

Eklund is just a glorified blogger, like just about any hockey fan who blogs, in my opinion. I don't think he has much respect in the hockey world, and I don't think he has any legitimate inside info. Still, I have visited his site from time to time. I think he's been correct about half as much as me over the last few years, though.

That is true. However, Sundin lying to the fans (IF IF IF he ends up signing with some other team) is reason for contempt, I do believe. He repeatedly said that he only wants to play for Toronto. If he joins another team, he will have basically lied to his fans.

Even though i've always said Selanne would be a perfect fit in Montreal to put on a line with Koivu and Higgins, Lecavallier would be the best thing that could happen to them IMO...
