The sad truth....
#1

So I got an email update from the JLC here in London, announcing a presale for Avril Lavigne:

Hey !

Best Damn Thing, released in April 2007, is already certified platinum ... Fans can expect to see the high-spirited energy of the record come to life through Lavigne’s stage show, which will feature dancers and a live band.

So now it's a big deal if you go to a concert and there's actually a live band?

what's next, promoting a pop princess show on the basis that the singer will actually sing instead of lipsynching and gyrating her ass?

"See Britney Spears launch her Rebound Tour, March 1 at the Metro!
This high-energy performance will feature an array of scant and glitzy costumes, mesmerizing pyrotechnics and lighting effects, dozens upon dozens of skilled dancers, an abundance of euphonies replicating authnetic musical instruments, and a score of genuine, live-sounding vocal melodies! Avril Lavigne epitomizes everything that is wrong with popular music today. I would rather rip up my money, throw it in the toilet and piss on it than pay to see a concert by her. Same goes with Kanye West and Brittany Spears.

I've seen Kanye.
It was hilariously fun.

For the record, he was opening for The Stones.

Huh... you can just see the 11 year olds wanting to go to that show ask themselves "A live band? How does that work????"

Brutal.

Kanye has made one of the best 10 albums of the year, so lets not go lumping him in with Avril and Britney.

Maybe he's got an ego, but his album is pretty great.

I think he's completely terrible, I have never heard one song of his that I even remotely thought was decent. All of his songs sound exactly the same, and I don't pretend to be an expert on rap but in my opinion his style is boring and he has no flow. It is my opinion that he is as talentless as Britney and Avril.

You certainly are entitled to your opinion.

However, while record-buyers are often wrong, a large number of like-minded music critics are rarely wrong (I emphasize rarely here to note that music critics can be wrong).

But hey, I don't really get the whole "Arcade Fire is the next big thing" thing, so..... yeah.

At least we can agree Kanye's music comes from a more genuinely creative place than that of Avril et al.

Yeah, I would agree with that. As far as I know he does write his own songs (I could be wrong) and thats more than can be said about Avril and Britney

I'm not a big hip hop fan but I will give him credit for writing actual lyrics. Most rappers simply rhyme words and throw in a few catch phrases. Kanye puts effort into his lyrics and actually has something to say.

Plus, I'll always give him props for his "George Bush doesn't care about black people" comment on the Katrina benefit. Anyone who speaks truth to power gets my support. Mike Myers reaction was priceless.

Kanye's songs do not all sound the same...and i haven't heard the new album, but I've enjoyed all his releases so far...

he seems like a douche, but his music's pretty good on average...and at least he doesn't try to act all gangsta gangsta like a lot of the competition...

I like Kanye. His songs are fun and have substance to them, unlike a lot of mainstream rap these days. He also seems to put on a great live show based on the few performances I've seen on television.
