Finally picked up a copy of YER FAVOURITES a couple of months ago, now the kiddos are total HIP fans. I'm talking about a 5 year old and three year old. Specifically, my daughter (5) loves 100th, ABAC, & Boots or Hearts, and my son is absolutely OBSESSED with Music@Work.

So I'm curious about the rest of you Basers w/kiddos...do they share your HIP fandom? Any tunes in particular?

My kid is only 1-1/2.
The other day I made a mix for my buddy that is going to the Rochester show with me later this week, putting on the CD what has been played at most of the recent shows.
My son did not really pay attention until Fire In The Hole came on - and he then started dancing around.

I was very proud last year when my youngest ( 8 ) got a set of drums for Christmas. I set them up in the basement and within an hour I heard this nice little drum beat going on and all of a sudden I hear "He said I'm Tragically Hip.......come on just lets go"..........LOL....yes she even knew the random lyrics from the bootlegs......LOL

I have no kids (I'm just 15, give me time lol) but my younger brother only listens to We'll go too and the Wherewithal. I'll admit that's not as strange as Fire In the Hole though.

My daughter calls In View "Kira's song". I seem to remember posting a link to a video of her singing it in the backseat a year ago, when she was only 2 years old. She has since graduated to knowing pretty much all the lyrics to the WC album, and a few others from other albums. The next time the boys come through Halifax, she is getting a ticket.

We try to expose them to lots of different styles and genres, including jazz, folk, and country. These are all styles we like as well, but we've been surprised to find that they have an ear for the rock and "indie" stuff we're into, like the Pixies, Sufjan Stevens, Eisley, They Might Be Giants, etc.... I fully expect them to develop their own tastes as they mature, but hopefully we can give them a well-rounded foundation to build on!

My four year old could sing the opening lines to Fly and Ocean. He particulary loves the intro to the Pittsburgh 2006 show, where Gord starts off Fly by saying, "I'm an immigrant, I'm a man who flew to Pittsburgh". My son thinks thats the way the song always begins...

LOL.........well my kids are now 11 and 9. I can say that I have actually had a pretty good influence on them. My oldest has asked me to upload The Hip, Rush, Pink Floyd, etc onto her iPod. I think she has finally come to the conclusion, if you can't beat em' join em'

Although, I have yet to sell either of them on Dylan (or Uncle Bob as I call him). I have tried and tried, but the kids just don't get it............yet....... :thumb:

I also have to admit that I continually bother them by saying they were named after Dylan's first born child and first wife............a complete coincidence I found out after they were both born, but I tell them its the truth just to bug them....... :thumb:

My daughter still likes the music we play. She's only 8 yrs old but she's a fan of the Hip and the Foo Fighters. Ofcourse, she also like Mika. So, I guess I'm saying that although she seems to have fairly good taste, there's still room for improvement.

Funny you should mention this. I was driving my daughters (3 and 5) to my mother's place last weekend and I popped in Fully Completely. Normally, the girls hate just about anything I listen to, but for some reason, my oldest started digging "At the Hundredth Meridian" (she liked the chorus, although she couldn't make out the words). She asked to hear it again, but my youngest wanted to hear "Pigeon Camera." The true test will be if they want to hear the album again...
