MLB Playoff Predicitons....
#1

I remember a few of us did this last year for the NHL playoffs so why not baseball? Here are mine.....

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Yankees vs. Indians
Red Sox vs. Angels

Red Sox vs. Yankees

NATIONAL LEAGE

Cubs vs. D-Backs
Rockies vs. Phillies

D-Backs vs. Phillies

WORLD SERIES

Red Sox vs. Phillies (in 4 games)
Then again, I don't know much about baseball.

NL

Cubs over Diamondbacks
Phillies over Rockies

Phillies over Cubs

AL

Sox over Angels
Indians over Yanks

Sox over Indians

World Series

Sox over Phillies

------------------------------------------------------

An interesting field this year.

I just don't think Arizona can possibly score enough to beat the Cubs. Meanwhile, I anticipate a wild-n-wooly series between PHI and COL, with Philly winning in 5 games.

The Indians / Yankees series should be very interesting. If Sabathia & Carmona perform to the standards they set in the regular season, I have to think they'll edge out NY, but it's really a tossup. Will NY get any good starting pitching in this one? Can the Tribe bullpen preserve a lead and close out games? I wonder. I gotta go with my heart on this one.

And I'm going to predict that the Sox sweep the Angels.

NL

Cubs vs Diamondbacks

I've got to go with the Cubs in this series, much to my disgust. Cubs offense is too much and Webb is the best pitcher Arizona has.

Phillies vs Rockies
This will be either a blowout for the Phillies or a slugfest.

AL

Indians vs Yankees

Fausto and CC should be lights out and Wang will suck the big one, IMHO, he's not a prime-time ace.

Red Sox vs Angels

I think this will be a very close series coz the Angels are the masters of getting on base and scoring runs creatively while the Red Sox have the offensive firepower, plus Becks and Schilling.

Cubs vs Phillies

I think this will be an offensive showcase for both teams, but I think the Cubbies will, alas, squeak out a 7 game series win over the Phillies.

Indians vs Red Sox
This will be the primo pitching matchup. Becks and Schilling vs Fausto and CC. Who will win? It's a tossup but I gotta hope my adopted hometown team guts this one out.

Indians vs Cubs

Cubbies will melt down on national tv

I know you are a fan of the Tribe, but why, at one point, did I think you were a Brewers fan?

Did you live in WI at some point? That would explain it, unless I'm completely mistaken about everything herein.

Heh, yes I did live in wisconsin for about 20 years and i'm still a Brewers fan. However, my folks lived in Cleveland for almost 10 years and when I would go visit them, I'd go see the indians play at jacobs as much as i could. Even though I live in New York now, I really could care less about the Yank-Me's or the Ugly Season Ending Collapse formerly know as the Mets. Guess you can call me an Indians/Brewers diehard! :thumb:

Some quick reaction to yesterday's action:

1. Josh Beckett is filthy in the postseason. Did I hear the broadcaster correctly when he said that JB has pitched 7 career CG shutouts (including last night), and THREE of them were postseason games?? Confusedhock: He alone makes Boston very tough to knock off in a 5-game series, let alone a 7-game series.

2. Philly's heart of the order better straighten things out PRONTO, or it'll be one short postseason for them. Colorado is playing some of the most complete baseball of anyone in MLB right now. They're a fun team to watch.

3. Thank you, Sweet Lou, for taking the first step in proving me wrong in my prediction of the winner Cubs / D-backs series. I was watching that game (but kept dozing off), when I saw Pinella slap
Zambrano on the back, signifying that he was done for the day, and thought to myself "Huh? I'd send him out for the 8th inning", when I realized it was still only in the top of the 7th!! Confusedcratch: I realize he wants to pitch Z on Sunday, but Lou, a bird in the hand beats two in the bush. If you let future games dictate your tactics in the first game of a playoff series, especially when it's tied 1-1 through six, you're asking for trouble. Wow.

Anyway, I'd GLADLY be wrong in my prediction....the sooner CHI is eliminated, the better (for me).

& the rockies do it again, that score in cleveland looked great tonight too

it's strange seeing Ted Lilly in the playoffs, although he didn't last long eh?

yeah Esthete that's right about Beckett, I read today that his last shut-out in the post-season was versus the yankees in '03, i'd bet the farm on that arm

also, the tbs coverage isnt as bad as i expected

Nah, that's solely Esthete's hate. My hatred, like any BoSox fan, is reserved for the Yankees. :x :rambo:
