So, to all you Eastern Hipbasers............
I am taking my two kids camping in PEI in a few week. This will be my first time down there since I was 10 myself............ugh, time flies buy to fast.....
So, any suggestions of "got to see" places to go?? Intentions are to basically stay in PEI for the week, but do have plans to stay in New Brunswick for a couple days, probably go to Bay of Fundy. Would love to do the Cabot trail also, but we are only staying a week, I think that may be trying to fit too much in.........
Any other thoughts, where to go, where to stay away from..........

Can someone explain to me how it's called "Down East"???
It's one of my pet peeves. If anything,it should be called out East. We've already got out West, up North and down South. Please someone...explain!!

I saw the Tidal Bore in Moncton last summer. They tout it as the "total" bore now because its not what it used to be like due to changes in road/highway engineering that changed the shape of the basin or something....anyway....I was standing there for about 20 mins after it was supposed to happen laughing to myself, thinking yeah, what a joke. But then all of a sudden I heard what sounded like a roar and sure enough, in came the tide! While its not like what it used to be I guess, I must admit that it's still pretty cool.
The Bay of Fundy was cool. The beaches in PEI are gorgeous (well, all of PEI is gorgeous), but having lived in NS for 5 years, I must say that I'm partial to that province, so I think you should go there!

If you're in Saint John, check out the Reversing Falls Jet Boat Tours. More fun than you would think :thumb:
There's also the Salty Jamz music festival going on right now...
Matt Andersen ( A local legend)... Jeff Healey... and others.
And if you're looking for a great Bay of Fundy beach, try New River Beach. It's about 20 minutes outside of Saint John, and it is breathtaking.

I'm glad that you've all given me tourist attractions to go and spend my hard-earned money on...I'm sure they're all "kickass" But it still does not explain why it is called "Down East" Like some have mentioned it probably has something to do with the fact that it is in the area of Lower Canada vs. the Upper Canada of the Toronto area...fair enough...I guess I'll have to go with that until someone comes up with further proof.
Having said that...I must say that I have been mesmerized by a great deal of the East Coast that I have seen thus far with work. On a monthly basis I am called OUT East and I must say that Halifax is absolutely beautiful. Great people, great food and for sure, great music.
As far as New Brunswick goes my favourite place thus far has to be Shediac, awesome seafood meals for super cheap (less than $10) and great beaches....Fredericton has some great nightlife but I haven't witnessed it yet...I guess I'll have to wait for the Hip show in September to complete my full review...I can't wait!!! Freddy and Hallie in one week..it's gonna be awesome...Can't wait to see some of you there!!!

my most recent newfound cool thing about the island is the brackley drive-in
www.drivein.ca
i'd also suggest checking out the bottle house http://www.maisonsdebouteilles.com/ (edit : english link http://www.bottlehouses.com/ the whole coastal drive in that area is great, you should be able to see the bridge around union corner
and if you're on the island next weekend check out the tall ships in summerside
