Just found out I can make this show!! Anyone getting together for pre show activities???

I'll be there as well, I went down for the last one at the Rock Club as well, was right against the stage, it was awsome. Pittsburgh turned out to be a beutiful city, way nicer than I could have ever expected. Being a steel town I thought it would be like hamilton or something but it turned out to be a lovely city

now I havn't been to hamilton much so maybe it's nicer than I think it is. If so I apollogize to anyone who lives there, didn't mean to offend!

I'm leaving from Oakville on Friday morning and will be checking into the Best Western around 2pm. The party starts there.....

Looks like we might be there afterall. My wife will be getting a sudden onset of sickness so we can go. I haven't decided if im going to stay over night or make the rest of the trip to niagara falls. Either way I will see you guys there.

I'm actually flying up to Buffalo Friday morning, then driving down to Pittsburgh. The flights were all set up before the Pittsburgh show was announced, and it was easier (and cheaper) to leave them as is.

Still hope to see the rest of the Virginia/Maryland contingent there.

Sadly the Hip dont have much of a following in the 'burgh. At the risk of offending the locals it tends to be an insular city with little diversity and appreciation for anything that exists outside of a 50 mile radius of the city limits.

I live in "burgh but I'm a Canadian and a Hip fan since the beginning. I went to their last show here at the Rock Club and there were only a few hundred people there and almost all of them were Canadians who made the trip down. After all its pretty rare to see the Hip in such a small venue within Canada.

This upcoming event at the Pittsbrugh arts festival wont be of the attendence scale of outdoor shows they play in Canada however I'm sure there will be a loyal contingent following of Canucks at this show to make it enjoyable.

If the locals look at you funny and sractch their heads trying to understand the messaging in Gord's lyrics and rants don't mind them, they just don't get it and probably never will. But there's a lot they don't get.

P.S. If you are visiting beware of the Pittsburgh left..drivers who make a left turn right in front of you when the light turns green and they dont have an advance arrow.

I hestitated before responding....

I was at the rock club and I am not from Canada. There were more Americans there then Canadians...How do I know? ...I could actually hear the vocals over the screaming along of the crowd.

Just because we unenlightened folks in the States don't sing along at a fever pitch doesn't mean we aren't enjoying the show. We just like to actually listen to the music.

And though you are correct about driving in any big city in North America, let alone Pittsburgh, your comment as to the collective Pittsburgh intellect is way off base and insulting.

Then again, generalizations from foreigners usually are.

I will be making the trip from outside the insular 50 mile radius so perhaps someone will be there that "get's it".

This bar is located across the street from the entrance to Point State Park where the concert will be held. It is part of the Hilton hotel. We could meet at 5 pm. There should be a lot of traffic because there is a Pirates game that night.

Smadabeer(Jay), a fellow Hipbaser who lives in Pittsburgh, e-mailed the Festival Performance Coordinator and received this timetable in a reply:


Warm Up - Chalk Outline Party will perform sometime around 6:00 pm
TTH will take the stage between 7:30-8:00 pm


Smadabeer, thehip11, WheatQueen and Hugh23 will be there with other Hip fans who are not Hipbasers. Everyone who is going to the show is invited to come. Here is your chance to put some faces together with the screen names you know. See you on Friday at 5 pm. Post here if you will try to make it.
