.....this friday i will be in Toronto at the new BMO Stadium for a friendly match between Argentina and Canada. I know soccer isn't big here in Canada but my father was born/raised in Argentina and I can remember following every World Cup/Argentina squad since I was a kid. I won't ramble on about how passionate we are when it comes to Argentine soccer (or futbol) because i don't want to bore you all to death but this Friday will be special for me and my dad. We also grabbed a 5 ticket package for the Under 20 World Cup which includes the final so hopefully we'll get a second chance to see Argentina play live. They've won 4 of the last 6 under 20 World Cups so i like our chances.
Just had to share that with you all, i'm so stoked for this! :jump Anyone else going to any U-20 World Cup matches or this fridays friendly for that matter? Also, any soccer fans close to the Ottawa area, in June there will be a Canada v.s USA friendly which will be a great game.

in this particular game i'm not cheering for either team really. Like i said, i've cheered for Argentina my whole life but I still can't go against Canada. I'm just happy I get to go to this match.

While I respect the level of devotion, conditioning and skill it takes to play soccer at that level, I find it boring as hell to watch. Ditto for golf...snore.

Trust me, when Argentina play the football (sorry, soccer) is never dull. The fluidity and grace of their teams is beautiful to watch!

I went to the home opener for the Toronto FC and had a great time. I really enjoy playing soccer, but never got into watching it on TV. After attending a match, I'm hooked.

How is the atmosphere for FC Toronto games Chris? I think I miss the season completely in November, which is a piity as I wanted to catch them!
And as for Argentina, there's only one word I need to say... Messi!

The atmosphere at the first game was fantastic! The season tickets for the first game were Toronto FC scarves so most fans looked like supporters from minute one. Throw in the fact that they have sold a ridiculous number of season tickets, and we should be good all season.

aye, I've been keeping an eye on the MLS for the past couple of seasons, it's only a matter of time before a real world beater turns up in the league (and Freddy Adu is not that man).
Marvell Wynne was a solid addition to the Toronto line up and they've got a former Portsmouth player in midfield - Robinson.

Messi is the next Maradonna, he's incredible, especially his foot work.
Toronto FC has a game this Saturday i believe, can't remember against who though. The team has alot of supporters so far which is great but it would be nice if they could score us a goal sometime soon. What are they 0-4 with 0 goals for and 10 against or something like that?

Messi could well be the next Maradona (or, more accurately the next great Argentinian, he's definitely his own player). Sergio Aguero looks amazing too... and there's so mmuch strength in depth, that Andres D'Alessandro (who, incidentally is an absolute gent to talk to) rarely makes the squad is just scary!
as for Toronto, yeah, it would be good to see them actually hit the net, as I recall they've got some pretty decent strikers too!

well i just got back from the game and wow! what a great time it was and i can't stress enough how surprised i was with Argentina supporters. i'd say a third of the crowd were cheering for Argentina. It was unreal.... flags all over the place, people beating their drums and singing their chants.... just thinking of it gives me goosebumps. The game ended with Argentina winning 2-1. Canada's goal came on a penalty kick which in my opinion shouldn't have been awarded, not in a million years. But overall it was well worth the ticket price and drive to Toronto. BMO Stadium is great, the field is beautiful.... i can't wait until the U20 tournament begins. I enjoyed myself so much i think i might go check out Toronto FC next game (not tomorrows but i'll be watching on TV).
