Match-up #38 - Long Time Running Vs. The Kids Don't Get It
I ask you to listen to the two songs in the match-up Back to Back, and consider the lyrics of the song. Feel free to post an unbiased analysis of both songs in this thread, but please refrain from cheerleading or making predictions for your favourites.

This is the second round... so in order for 'Kids' to appear right now... it had to have won last round.
If I remember correctly, it beat out 'Twist My Arm'.
And technically Family Band just advanced to the third round.

Wow that was a tough vote for me. Apparently not for anyone else here: Right now it's 24-2 for LTR

Came back to see if it got any closer after I voted, I guess not, we might have one of our finalists, LTR looks tough. Maybe enough to get a #1 seed in the West region next year

I love Long Time Running...drop a caribou...great lyrics.
BUT, Kids has so much raw power, especially when it's played live. Love how Gord sings it, so it gets my vote.

This will be as big of a blowout as one could expect to see beyond a first round matchup I think.

This may be the first time I actually listened to one right after the other before I've voted. I think Kids may be one of those songs that is a lot better live than on the album. That's not to say I don't enjoy the album version either, cause I do.
I think LTR is the better of the two. Even though I would give it up live in favour of many other Hip songs, there is no denying just how terrific this song is.
I've kind of had a resurgence of interest in Road Apples and Fully in the last year. I was very guilty of overkilling both of them for quite a few years, so I guess I just lost interest in them for a while. Last summer, when I was out walking my dog, I decided to play Road Apples. It was almost like rediscovering how fucking great this album is, especially at high volumes when you're outside on a beautiful day. Since then it has gotten a lot of rotation in my player. More recently I had the opportunity to listen to Fully Completely from start to finish (I played the album art track order, not the actual). Once again I almost forgot how great this album is.
Anyhoo, good albums.

Don't know why, but in my blasphemous heart Long Time Running has always seemed somewhat artificial to me, whereas Kids Don't Get It is just Gord and the band emptying themselves in a way that seems more Hip. More Hip in 2007 anyway, and since that's when I'm voting, I'm picking Kids.

Long Time Running. It's a slowdance, it's unique among Hip songs.

Kid's because it is the best example of the new explosive power the band has found. LTR = good song, but Kid's just seems to hold that catchy edge. If I was going to bed before casting my vote, maybe it would be different.
