It appears as though my Hip 'taste' is not in tune with the majority of the fans here. There have been a few instances where I can't believe the outcome of a vote... this is one of them.

Don't get me wrong, I think Nautical is a good song, but I wouldn't regard it as their best.

Let the flogging commence...

I'm in the same boat. I like the song, more live than on the album, but I certainly don't hold it in the high regard as so many here.

Fiddler's for me...the lyrics, the metaphors and the message is just too damn strong.
It definitely has a lot of heart and sentimentality in it.

Agreed....its getting KILLED though....

Nautical D all the way. Fiddler's Green is a great, sublime, miraculous tune ... and this one's not even close -- that's how good Nautical is.

I spent the entire fall and winter of 1994-95 in my basement listening to Nautical Disaster with my jaw hanging open.

two marine based songs should not go bow-to-bow – IMO

Tommy-T better fortify his canoe the way Nautical is streaming along

[ShannonW]

I was upset about how hard a decision it was, but really I knew it was Nautical all along! I just didn't think I'd ever have to vote AGAINST Fiddlers.... Round 2 rules!

[MattyM]

I'm clearly in the minority but for lyrics alone I honestly think Fiddler's Green is the most poignant song in the Hip's catalogue.

[The Heron Outside]

I'm calling it now...Grace v. Nautical in the final...Unless it's a semi-final matchup...But one of those two will emerge victorious in this cool little competition..

[sgryzko]

I cannot believe this vote either.

I guess it's because I have never "gotten" Nautical. It's pretty good live, but have you guys seen Fiddler's live??? (probably not haha. I'm one of the lucky few)

Album versions: Fiddler's kicks Nautical's ass. (IMO)

Nautical Disasters cause sailors to go to Fiddler's Green.

...I think.

The way the bracket is set up they would meet in the semis...

As for this match-up, there's no doubt that Fiddler's is one of their more powerful songs, and the fact that we went so many years without hearing it live certainly added to it's aura. Nonetheless, if you look up the definition of 'musical perfection' in the dictionary, you'll find two words: Nautical Disaster.
