Seriously, this guy has to be selfish as f.uck if he won't share something like this.

If I had won it and came on here & read something like this, I don't think it would inspire me to hurry and share it for free with everyone who didn't pay $280US for the tape.

If something of this calibre ever appears on eBay again, the hipbase should be more organized in getting together a group bid.

I'd suggest something like 1 person collect a certain $ amount from everybody who would like a copy (via PayPal). If the item isn't won, everybody's donation towards the auction is refunded. If the item is won, all those that contributed get a copy before it is publically shared.

This way, it's not 1 person spending a huge amount of money then having to consider whether or not to share it, but a group, each putting in an equal share and taking an equal "hit".

I think It's important for a piece like this to be distributed, even just for the sake of preservation. As far as we know its the only copy around(outside of the Hip's Vault's probably) and if something should befall it, it would be lost. How can the winner be possessive? He'd always own the master, the official source.

I guess it's just my opinion that it would be his duty to allow others(at their expense) to copy/share. I knew if I obtained it, even for whatever number, I would realize that it's a little bit of music history, and you can't own that.

I love your method, SRB. In the future, I'd like to organize something like that if another oportunity like this arises.

One other point of my group-bid suggestion, is that it would have to be kept a secret how many people donated to the cause, because otherwise, somebody could read how many people are in the group-bid, and know exactly how much money the total bid would be.

As for duty to share, it's nobody's duty...just like it's nobody's duty to share the live recordings that people record. It's done by tapers who want to share their recordings, but by no means do they have to, and the winner of the tape would have to want to share it.

Anybody who is angry with the winner for not sharing it now, should have placed a higher bid, hence my group-bid suggestion.

If we can raise enough money - I have been in contact with the seller for a couple of weeks - he offered it to me for $150.
I do not agree with paying for Hip "bootlegs", and I am not convinced that this is something that we do not all already have - maybe just some of the song titles have been changed.
Just food for thought.

I spoke to him the day the auction started - and he kept in contact with me. He said he would be willing to make me a copy, but he would like some cash depending on how the price of the auction went. When it closed at $300 he offered it to me at half.
I have not talked to him in a week, since I said - thanx but !!!!!!!!$150!!!!!!!
