Is there a canadian city that it is cheap to fly to St. John's from. I can't find anything under 600 from DC, NYC, Boston or Philly. Anyone have an insider's hint?

The simple answer: No. Newfies fly more often than any other Canadian, in my somewhat educated opinion (I work for Air Canada). Most likely due to the fact that they're on an island. Flights in and outta there are generally very full which means they're generally quite expensive, from The Excited States anyway. I just checked aircanada.com and $611US taxes in is the cheapest on right now, however, there's no sale for Sept flights yet. You can get a sale in June for instance that would be $514US taxes in - that's about as low as you could expect.

I flew DC to St. John's in July 2005 and if I remember correctly my airfare was around $550. I tried all kinds of odd routings, connections and different airlines but couldn't get anything lower than that. Since then airfares have tended to go up so I'm not surprised you're not finding anything under $600.

Somehow we need to convince Southwest to start flying to Canada.

i would suggest, if you can anyway, make some little vacation out of a trip here to NL, spend a few days and check out some scenery, tours and other stuff (George Street)

Isn't there a ferry? Depending on the kinda car you've got, you might luck out and spend <$500 on gas, but that's a bit of a stretch these days.

Umm, that would be one hell of a road trip! :lol: Googling it from Boston to St John's would be 1400 miles and roughly 1 day and change driving time.
