Final Round 1 Matchup Coming
#1

So we have covered 62 of the "Hip 64."

What do you think will be the final two songs included in the tournament?

Or in other words, what songs that haven't been included were you hoping to see?

A few for me:
- Escape is at Hand
- Boots or Hearts

Maybe also:
- Chagrin Falls
- Anything from IVL: All Tore Up, A Beautiful Thing
- Summer's Killing Us

But I think it's really a testament to these 62 songs that I can only think of a handful that I think deserve to be in it.

If Escape isn't in the tourney, it's a sin

I hope after looking at the 64 songs that I have came up with, you will recognize the intense struggle I had to endure. Selecting 64 songs out of 170 great rock and roll tracks and soothing balads is no easy task. I factored in the Hipbase's opinions on songs, to gain an understanding of which will be the best 64 songs in the catalogue.
The Hip 64 event has been a tremendous success thus far. The response has far surpassed my expectations, as I had figure out about 50 votes per match-up. Seeing The members of this community double my original estimation, makes me feel proud of this community. I also appreciate your on-going support, andd genuine positivty towards this event.
I hope to make this event an annual occurence, so without any strong objection by the community, you can expect the '64 years to come.
To keep the competition fresh, I will initiate a relegation round after we have crowned the inaugural winner. If your favourite songs have not appeared in this 64, you will get an opportunity to push them into the competition next year. More information on this aspect will follow after we have decided a winner.

Shouldnt this wind down sometime around May 24? Perhaps then The Hip could play an all day event for base members where they play all 64 songs over a 10 hour period. Lets say they do a 6 set show, each set appx 1-1\2 hrs. With the extended jams and such this mathematically could work  A tall order? For this band....NOT :thumb:

i thought the 64 songs were chosen at random? a suggestion for next year, give hip basers a week or so to vote on the 64 songs that will be involved in the tourny. i don't know how you would want to set that up but its a suggestion for next years tourny.

Shane, perhaps the top 5 or 10 vote getters in the relegation round will get automatic bids to the Hip 64 next year? I think it would be too much work to have Hipbasers vote on the selections for next year, the poll would be enormously long.

I'm with VioletlightHeron... Put the Top 32 from this years tourney in as the top seeds next year, and then have 32 new songs.

Over time we would have all of the songs ranked, and could start to root for the Cinderella teams; have odds-on favourites, etc!

Do you realize how long it would take to actually rank the entire Hip catalogue using this head-to-head format?! Confusedhock:

I like that idea.

I may have missed it somewhere, but what is the format for the second round?
Are the matchups going to be based on first round order, or re-seeded, or re-shuffled?

The head-to-head is not what takes the time... it is the length of time that each match takes...
