Detroit shows...
#1

Who's going to the Detroit shows? I've never met any of the folks on here before and I'm headed to both State theater shows. My buddies and I have main floor gen admission. Anyone else?

Me and my gal are going to both shows in Detroit. I am totally jacked to see them two nights in a row and am counting to two wildy different concerts. The two of us have been pondering set lists and cover choices since we saw the boys were playing a different one each night (and I am all for the covers, btw); I vote for "Can You Get To That?" and "Fell in Love With A Girl".

Anyone have an idea about the opening band? How about Kathleen Edwards? I saw that Wintersleep had opened a few shows down south and checked out some of their tunes on myspace. They'd be kind of cool to see them.[/quote]

Yea, I was wondering about the opening band thing too. Can't wait till thursday! I really hope they vary the set lists from night 1 to night 2. I'm going to wait till later this week to put a "wishlist" on here... :thumb:

I'm hittin' up both shows, as well. It's been much too long since I've seen them last, and couldn't be more excited. I always love seein' a show at the State, too. Cool venue, imo. Friday will be mayhem downtown with Iggy and the Stooges playin' the Fox right next door. Got mezzanine Thursday, floor on Friday. As far as what I want to hear.....pretty much anything and everything. It doesn't matter. I know I'll be blown away both nights. Enjoy, y'all.

It is downtown mayhem... On Thursday, The Hip at the State, Low at the Majestic and the Wings vs Calgary at the Joe. I was reminded of this when I turned down the opportunity to go see the game just moments ago. Hopefully they'll last more than one round and I'll have another shot to see 'em in round 2. Good thing the Tigers aren't in town...

How about the Hip singing O Canada before the game on Thursday? Wouldn't that be cool. Have they ever done that before?

I recall many Hip shows where the audience sings "Oh Canada" before the show..... but never the band...

Oh, yeah... saw/heard that in San Francisco, at the Fillmore, on the IVE tour. The Canadian expats also sang the theme to Hockey Night in Canada. That was a riot.

i wish i was going if that counts for anything. i think Canada seriously needs to consider changing our national anthem to the HNIC theme.

My wife and I will be at the first Detroit show (April 12). We have main floor tickets. I've been to the State Theater before (saw Oasis there back in April 2000) and it's a great venue. This is my first Hip show, however, and I am absolutely sky high right now!

Hopefully the weather will cooperate! Right now, we have about 3 or 4 inches of snow in mid-Michigan, which is pretty much unheard of for this time of year. I really don't want to have to drive through a snow storm to get to Detroit!

I see the Hip have been playing a rather eclectic selection of covers during their encores (some seem designed to fit the particular place they are playing--like their R.E.M. cover in Atlanta). I'd LOVE it if the Hip covered a Stooges tune tomorrow (as most of you probably already know--and someone already pointed it out in this thread-- Iggy and the Stooges--one of Michigan's greatest bands ever--are playing down the street at the Fox on Friday night). I don't expect the Hip to cover the Stooges, but I'd be blown awayand thrilled if they suddenly launched into something like "No Fun" or "I Wanna Be Your Dog!"

Well, hope everyone who is going to the show tomorrow has fun. I'll be posting my "concert review" as soon as I get home Thursday night/Friday morning.

I am surprised no one called me on my crossing up of album initials... thought for sure I'd get hammered for typing "IVE" instead of "IVL".

I actually thought the singing of the Canadian anthem/HNIC theme was pretty cool. Funny, but cool. Does that happen at Canadian shows, too?

BTW: I am 40 years old and for the most part I just don't get as jazzed about seeing shows as I used to, but right now I am superjazzed about tonight's concert. Maybe part of it is because of the economy - or OUR economy, anyway - we haven't been seeing as many shows. We've been holding out for the Hip, passing on al ot of marginal shows. So we are primed and ready. Even the ridiculous service charges we had to pay (about $15 per ticket for God's sake! Eddie Vedder was right!!!) can't bring me down.

See you there!

I'll be there both nights (have an extra tix for tonight, main floor). Tonight by myself and tomorrow night with the wife. I have main floor for tonight and want to get up front but I want to party at the State Bar or Hockeytown. Where is everyone headed?

I'll be in my World Container hockey jersey with a black hat/goatee. Say hello.

My wife and I are from Michigan but love Canada/The Hip/Hockey soooo much we got married in Toronto Smile

See ya there, Jim

By the way I'm also taking my wife to the Fox Theatre to see John Legend on Saturday. I bet I'm the only person to see the HIP Thurs., Fri. and then will be at this concert! Diversity is good for the soul Smile

Smiles, Jim
