Two words: Andrew Raycroft.

Granted, it was a complete team collapse, but sometimes you just need to have a goalie who can rise to the occasion and not give up 4 goals in 10 minutes of the third period when your season is on the line.

I didn't see the game, but saw there was a 4-1 lead in the 3rd and was wondering what kind of woe is us excuses the crybaby Sabres fans were gonna come up with (Afinegenov is hurt! Waaaaaaah!). Ugh. Tough one to take. Need those two points and nothing less tomorrow night.

Absolutely....no one player should take the blame for the loss of a 4-1 lead....

...except RayCRAP...I mean...Raycroft..of course......

Absolutely rediculous night of Hockey. How the **** do the Maple Leafs explain themselves when they can't make the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row???????????????
Guess they don't want to play into the Spring????????

I never thought I'd say this, but thank you Edmonton!

Ugh...I feel dirty now. Time for a shower.

GO FLAMES!!!

i don't know why the hell we picked this game to win, but the flamers fans can all shut the hell up now.

from the neverending bashing on the radio stations in this stupid town, to the crass and rude fans.

calgarians need to wake up and realize the battle of alberta is dead, except in calgary. no one in edmonton gives a shit anymore...maybe it had something to do with a decade of the flames being so bad we didn't consider them a threat...

anyways, enjoy your first round knock out, should you make the playoffs...

I know he doesn't have a lot to work with.. but I'm starting to wonder exactly how good of a coach Paul Maurice is? He has to get some of the blame for that 3rd period meltdown.. why no timeout, etc.? Confusedhock:

Well, I distinctly recall Maurice saying at the very beginning of the season that the Leafs would be in a dogfight to get the very last playoff spot, and it looks like he's been bang on.

I know it is disappointing overall, but to be where they are despite less than average goaltending from Raycroft is pretty damn impressive. I mean you've got to think that even Raycroft had been only average and not Cloutier-esque, they'd comfortably be in a playoff spot right now.

Any chance Pogge is ready to be an NHLer next season?

Yeah, the way he's been tearing up the AHL this season I don't know why they haven't called him up yet :jump

As for the current Leafs, they are pretty much exactly where most people thought they would be at this point in the season, cause lets face it, this was never a team with the talent to be a serious contender. If anything, I would say that the skaters as a whole have over-acheived this year, and as you said cferneyh, with an average goaltender they'd be in the playoffs. Of course they are not done yet, but with 8 games left, they will need to win at least 6 of them just to have a chance.

As far as I can tell, it's the same old Leafs. I don't see Paul Maurice being any better than Pat Quinn but I guess somebody had to take the fall. :rambo:

Sabres will win 6 of 8 from the leafs this year. Write it down. By the way they just came back from down 2 goals and won again. 8 consecutive road wins to start the season. New NHL record! And yes when I speak of my hometown team I use "WE". Thats so crazy of me right? Cause no one does that.

Let's see if the Sabres can prove me right tonight. A win tonight and we will have taken 6 of 8 from the Laffs.
