Why not? The boys will probably go down early and have a nice little vacation. A well earned one at that.

Maybe the band owes some favours to some banking bigwigs, or something...

Or, is there a big Canadian tourist contingent in the Cayman Islands?

That brings to mind the idea of doing a Cruise ship show ala Barenaked Ladies & dozens of other bands.

Wouldn't it be cool to do a weekend cruise with fellow Hipfans/basers. Maybe the Hip could play two shows, Fri & Sat nights?

Just thinking out loud.... :thumb:

Something like this: http://www.therockboat.com/

That would be awesome... maybe a cruise through the Great Lakes...

I hereby start the petition NOT to play Nautical or Dire Wolf on this cruise.
But what a great idea.

I was told by a birdy that there is large Canadian presence in the Cayman Islands. If the date was later I would go in a heartbeat.

OK, this could be just a coincidence, but.... a friend of mine just got back to Halifax after spending three years in the Caymans. He was working in a hotel bar/restaurant on the beach (the name of the place escapes me at the moment). He said that his boss has been trying to get the Hip to come to the Caymans since the Jake Gold days, because his boss is a huge fan. I remember saying to my friend when he called me from there that the idea was ludicrous, but that stranger things have happened. And now look... I wonder.... could this be related??

am i the only one who thinks this gig is a bit lame? this is just a cash gig to make money - that's it.

i'm sure it's nice evening of entertainment for the people who are there, but they'll be playing to a bunch of people and/or corporations who are out there trying to avoid paying tax in their home countries (tax that could rightfully put into the services and causes The Hip often lobby for). Sorry for the extreme view, but i just don't think it's very 'rock n roll' and certainly not very "Hip" . It's like playing the Royal Bank Summer picnic, in my (clearly not so humble) opinion. would you see Pearl Jam, Radiohead, or others doing a gig like this?

This gig and that classic rock gig think they're doing in Wisconsin this summer smell of a couple of bad decisions by their agents/management.

I see yer point, of course....But for the month before this gig, the band's gonna be playing cramped stages in the sae ol' rooms they've played dozens of times before...Why not let them have a little break? Plus, treat their families to a much needed vacation?
