i love march madness, but none of my buddies really follow basketball so it drives me crazy not really having anyone to talk to about it all, lol..

I'm glad some one made up a pool.

I went to the regional games a couple years ago in Buffalo, it was some of the craziest basketball I'd ever seen!!

I respect Coach Krzyzsewzeyzewewyzchewzyski, but he is the Rat King. I hate his face. Yes, hate.

My personal highlight of the first 2 rounds will come Saturday, as my alma mater (Xavier) faces the school I've rooted for since boyhood: #1-seeded Ohio State. I've never seen them play one another, as OSU avoids scheduling XU like the plague (the last time these in-state schools played was 1984 in the NIT).

Should be interesting. I gotta pull for OSU, who has a legit shot at winning this whole thing, but I won't throw a fit if X pulls off the upset....

Why do you care who roots for whom?

Why is it "sad" that when the two college teams I fervently follow and root for meet (for the first time in 23 years), I opt to pull for the one that I'd been rooting for more a decade before I even thought about applying to colleges?

I have been an OSU fan since I was old enough to comprehend 'sports'. Just because I enrolled at XU at age 18 and graduated 4 years later does not mean that my lifelong allegience to OSU basketball must unconditionally take a backseat to my alma mater.

The truth is that my allegience to either team is nearly equal, despite being of unequal duration. If they would both meet in the Final, I'd be nothing more than a spectator, just soaking it in. But this is a 2nd round game, and I'd rather see the team with a better chance of sustaining a run to the Final 4 win.

I agree with that. I always wondered what it was like for a guy who played sports professionally to grow up cheering for one team and then get drafted by its arch rival. Its got to be tough, after you retire who do you root for?

Sidebar - I find the psychology of sports fandom to be rather interesting. I remember an article about English football supporters and the football clubs they chose to support, taking into consideration social and economic class, education, and several other factors. That was a good read.

Yeah. How else would you expect me to react?

Hell, after that game tipped off, I found myself in the most surreal place I've ever been as a sports fan. There have been plenty of times where I was indifferent to whichever team emerged victorious for lack of rooting interest, but never have I found myself torn between two opponents who equally share my entire rooting interest. One minute I'm pulling for Xavier to keep it close, the next minute I'm worrying that OSU is falling dangerously behind. Very strange.

I'll make no argument there. I'm more worried about Tennessee than I am about Memphis OR Texas A&M, and they're both solid.
