New Album Sounds .....
#1

Amazing from what I have heard so far. Looks like they are going back to their old style of Gord ranting screaming and the band rocking out hard rifts. I am super stoked for it to come out, all those tunes sounded great

And I love the name of The Lonely End OF The Rink I cant wait to hear the lyrics and see what hockey references are in it.

Well, without going into too many details, I just wanted to let you know that I have heard the album to date - finally, this past weekend - and it is so F'n amazing. All weekend on the bus, people were stopping by to say hi, the album would go on, and then people would get blown away. It is so great, words can't express how much I am looking forward to it's release . . . .

No lyrics for anything and I wouldn't be posting those until the album was actually out most . . . .and please don't ask me for that info, as I don't have it . . . . all I can tell you is that what I have heard of it is AMAZING beyond belief and that this is a fact.

Hmmm, well, I would guess the Lonely End of the Rink could be referring to Gord being a goalie. Sometimes when you're team is in the other zone, you, as the goalie, get to stand there (and in my case, suck some wind into my body!) and anticpate the next rush.

Could also refer to something like when a team wins a big game, and they all stream into their end and celebrate, leaving the losers to move around in thier end of the rink, heads down, wondering what could have been.......

no worries

Thanks for the info though

Cant wait to get a copy of the Van show

Out of 20 shows I have seen and 4 of them being small clubs like the commodore fridays show is in the top 3 (amoung other mentionables MLG 96 last show in the Gardens, Concert Hall Toronto and Marine Midland Arena 96)

Friday night Gord had this energy around him that I have not seen in a while, he and the band looked like they were loving life and loving on stage, (i know this post is going to anger people by making comments like that) But it looks like the interest is back and we should see more and more great music to come

What a great sign

If anyone has a copy of the Van show it would be interested to understand what The Lonely end of the rink is about

My guess hockey

Good reasoning on both counts, I can relate to the first one more. I was a goalie for almost 20yrs. till my knee went wonky. I remember being alone in my net and thats when my mind would start to wonder, and I remember wanting the other team to come back, I wanted that puck it was mine, I couldnt wait to make my next big save, maybe Gord felt the same way? If you guys want the lyrics maybe someone with a very good ear and patience can decipher them from Dana's recent download.

Mav, you're not making the wait any easier  Glad to hear that the album is top-notch.

I transcribed as much for the lyrics to rink as i could comprehend. Please correct or add to it, as i'm positive i'm mistaken about some parts:

I looked up and you were there
Just sitting there all alone
Holding your fist in the air
__________, you're on your own

__ drove me home through a snowy tomb
I fell asleep in my seat
I had the dream of having no room
You were there just staring at me

At the lonely end of the rink, you and me
At the lonely end of the rink, you and me

Won't you join the rush
As the season builds

Hear your voice 'cross a frozen lake
Voice like the end of a leaf
Say if you won't die of a thousand _____
Beaten by the sweetest of _____

At the lonely end of the rink, you and me
At the lonely end of the rink, you and me
At the lonely end of the rink, you and me
At the lonely end of the rink, you and me

Won't you join the rush
As the season builds
Jump into the rush
As the season builds

Took me home to a snowy gloom
I fell asleep in my seat
I had the dream of having no room
You were there just staring at me

At the lonely end of the rink, you and me
At the lonely end of the rink, you and me
At the lonely end of the rink, you and me
At the lonely end of the rink, you and me
Lonely end of the rink, lonely end of the rink

Keep us posted, MAv. I'm sorry that i missed you in Vancouver on friday.

Great call

Perhaps it could also be a metaphor how the band feels when playing in the US ?

I think this song goes deeper than the wrong end of the rink looking onto all the action

Either way it sounds awesome

I havent been this excited for an album since Henhouse

But wait, that can't be true ... I heard a rumour it was produced by Bob Rock....
