dogs are amazing creatures, and make great companions and will protect you to the death...cats are fascinating, it's just really fun to watch how agile and athletic they are, and as mentioned, they are quite nice to cuddle...as long as the cats are nice, and somewhat like people, they are just as nice as dogs...
they're equal to me...if i could have anything for a pet it'd be a penguin though...an emperor penguin.

I love my dog. I can have the shittiest day at work but when I come home, she's so happy to see me, she doesn't complain, she doesn't give me any attitude and she makes sure I get my exercise. It also helps that I feel protected when I'm with her; speaking from a female perspective and living in Toronto, there have been times when I've been thankful that I had her with me.
Mind you, I don't hate cats; I cat-sit for my brother. But a cat's mood can turn on a dime; a cat will let you pet him for an indeterminate time before he just turns around and takes a swipe at you or bites you for no good reason. ow.
They also have an annoying habit of jumping up on tables and counters, areas where food is either being prepared or served... and I end up having to keep cleaning the surface. Maybe it's just me but I like my food sans furball... which brings me to another disgusting gift he usually leaves me.
Other than that, cats are cool too. But I still prefer dogs.

I have a cat, love him. I love dogs too but would never own one, they are more work than a kid. I would never own a pet that I had to walk behind and pick up its shit. If aliens came to earth they would think that Dogs ruled the earth because they would see people walking behind them cleaning up their shit. Geez these 4 leg thing must be the rulers they would think. ( I ripped this off from some comedian)

Always loved dogs and never had any time for cats. To me they just don't really care about you. Happy to be on their own and stay on their own.
We are actually just in the process of purchasing an Airedale Terrier through a local breeder. Now on to the puppy training.

But as my cat once said
'Maow'
Which when translated;
"Screw you and screw your family if you think I am even going to move from this spot on the bed! I will dig in my claws and hold on to this small patch of warm duvet for all I can, and if you do manage to get me off, just you remember to keep your toes under the covers or we will see how well you get to the bathroom pissing blood out. Of course the kids will just put it down as me 'playing' but screw them, I have them brainwashed"
I liked our cat. He was a happy little cat, and he shit small parcels, not like the kilimanjaro thing I had to traverse to get the kitchen towel the other day thanks to my wife's retriever (not mine you will notice I just pay the sodding bills!!)

Man English cats are smart. American cats just sit around all day licking their balls and occasional murder birds.

It's an accent thing. My cat was a Geordie.
It was usually 'maow, leik man'
