(at the bottom) Good to see Gord lending his support to the boys. It would certainly pump me up hearing that.

During the pregame today they said that Steve Downie got an fax or email (cant recall) from Gord Downie that said
"I like your game. We have some things in common, same name, and we both can't play guitar very well"
They then explained steve downie has his guitar over seas and is annoying the team with his playing.

Yeah they showed the note briefly on the screen, didn't catch exactly what it said but the main part was a short paragraph wishing the team good luck and the thank yous noted above. The ps was something like "(To Steve) from one Downie who can't play the guitar to another, keep strumming..."
The announcer (I think it was James Cybulski) explained that Downie is a big Hip fan, and that at first when shown the message he thought it was a practical joke and not actually really from The Hip. Cybulski then said "trust me the hip don't joke about about their hockey," and then it cut back to the game.
Great first period btw!

FROM THE TRAGICALLY HIP....
Gentlemen
Hello and Happy New Year from everyone here in the Hip camp.
We are sending our best thoughts and heartiest expressions of awe and gratitude. You are a pleasure to watch and an inspiration to us all.
Happy days, always and....
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
PS..... and Steve (Downie) from one Downie Who-Can't-Play-Guitar to another - I say "Don't Stop!" (no matter what they say). "Play to Live and Live to Play!" Keep bashin' that G chord brutha! You don't have to master the guitar, you (xxxxx, xxxxx) himself with it. Respect, G.
**************************
As the camera panned out, the words got really blurry, hence the (xxxxx, xxxxx). I tried to decipher it but to no avail.
