I dont entirely get the point of Facebook either, but I have been on it for over a year, and am on everyday.
Some of the appeal of Facebook is that it is a creeper's paradise. THough no one wants to admit it, everyone gets enjoyment out of a little voyeurism, and Facebook facilitates this. Since everyone is networked, it can be addicting to click from profile to profile, seeing who knows who.
Also, Facebook is a way to present an image of yourself of your choosing. So you can attempt to showcase yourself the way you wish to be seen by others.
It really is bizarre though. One of my profs is writing a book on Facebook and why it has become so popular.

Hmm, since joining facebook, I've been able to reconnect with 3 friends whom I haven't seen in a long time.
And its another way to keep in touch with friends who are at different universities and whatnot.
