This is such a great song and one of my favorites from Henhouse. Simple and gorgeous, not to mention a stellar vocal performance from Gord D. They played it in Spokane last year and it was freakin' amazing. Anybody remember Kate Fenner's beautiful contribution to this song during the "evening with" tour? She sang lead on a couple of verses during the Ottawa show and I remember the crowd just going nuts. That woman can belt out a tune like nobody's business.

I remember Kate's part well. Definitely a standout performance. Flamenco has always been on of my favourites.

Oooh! Highly appreiciated and in heavy rotation on my studying play list. I love the version from the 10.8.2000 show in Erie PA...Kate trading vocals with Gord...magic.

Agreed! Definately one of my all time faves - it is just beautiful. I can never listen to it just once either.... I always have problems getting to the remaining tracks on the album.

An excellent cool-down track....I find that it fits quite nicely right after Greasy Jungle for some reason.

This is a great song and best version I saw was at the Landmark in Syracuse on Henhouse tour in 96. They have performed this in the encore many times and possibly even the last song of the set which I can do without.

When I saw the Evening With show in San Francisco, & Kate took her first verse, I almost started crying. It was so beautiful.
The "Maybe a prostitute..." line has long held something extra for me. I've dated a number of women who seem to have such trouble getting perspective on their value, and how wonderful they are, and in there I've dated a couple of former prostitutes. The truth of that line is so vast, and so bloody painful at times.

I LOVE this song. I love the rhythm of this song. So laid back.
"No one drags me anywhere" classic lyrics too.

I do not read much, if any, of the lyrics that accompany the albums.
I swear after all this time I should, but the music/lyrics I hear mean to me what they mean to me.
The songs are what I make them.
Anyway
I was on vacation last week and we walked past a tiny bit of water at our resort and there were three flamingos in the water hanging out.
Made me think of this song.
Then I thought: but that song is called Flamenco.
Now, I never thought the song or lyrics said flamingo or anything like that.
But it got me thinking what the hell a Flamenco looked like.
And just then I realized that a flamenco is not even a bird. (Actually, I had to look it up)
That is always the visualization I got listening to this song.
Sweeping the air, weaving the sun. I always picture a beautiful winged shadow up there carving the sky.
I always still will picture that. But now I will smile while I do.

Your visualization is spot on. "Dance like a matador ..." Flamenco, southern Spain's folkloric dance, and Spanish for Flamingo. To me the song has always been about the elegance and beauty of the dance, both human and avian.
"we've only got three hundred feet to go ..."
