Do people think the comparison to Springsteen is a good fit? I dunno, I can see profile-wise it's probably true that Springsteen in the US is comparable to The Hip in Canada, but REM or PJ seemed like more obvious parallels.
Good article tho.
IMHO here in US there is no comparable artist to the Hip. Like our horrific politics, we are too divided. I love P J, their shows at the garden are INSANE, yet so many people are non rockers these days or just don't like Eddie singing. Beyond that, their tix are by far the hardest to buy and most expensive here in NY (and I was lucky to score Ottawa Hip tix!). They are extremely popular, but they would never get a 33% share of the country to watch their concert on tv.
Bruce, Billy Joel, very very popular, but I don't like typing their names, and there are many rock fans here that don't even consider them rock, especially Joel. And for crying out loud, I work in his home town (a short walk from the street they want to rename for him)...about ten miles from where I live. I liked some of his early stuff when I was a teen, but by college, the tunes meant almost nothing to me. My impression is fans that like but not love music, love Billy Joel. Probably an unfair assessment

But most rock fans I know, those that would rather pay money for concerts than say sporting events, the majority of those fans are not Joel nor Bruce fans.
CAs relationship with the Hip is unique. Something to enjoy and cherish.
