Downie has what has been described to me as an amazing solo project ready for release in October. In addition to a CD that explores the challenging issues of Canada’s notorious residential schools for native Canadians, the disc will also spawn a graphic novel and an animated CBC special. I’ve heard he’ll tour it too.

Needless to say, I'm excited for this. I've always loved solo Gord. Hoping the tour pans out too. I always find solo Gord on tour to be much more down-to-earth and personable, regardless of the size of the venue. He doesn't seem to play up the grandiose character of onstage "Gord Downie" like he does with the Hip. It's as if his solo act is a glimpse at the man behind the character he's created.

The title track is 'Secret Path' and it is a Kevin Drew and Gord Downie tune they have worked on for the past couple of years.

Jeff Lemire is one of the best comic writers in Canada (and anywhere really), so this news is even more exciting than I thought it would be!
