Then why did you say that Rumsfeld "sees the writing" and call him a "coward"?

they are all puppets, looking for the money in the hat. He should have maned up and let them fire him. resiging means you quit. Politically he looks better resigning then being fired. He's in a no win situation and he knows public perception of him and the Office is bad. If he really stands by his words, you don't quit. You may be forced out, but he's trying to look better for HIS future, not the countrys.

So you think he's a "coward" for "allowing himself" to be forced out? You say he should've "manned up" and "let them fire him"?

When the President of the United States appoints you to head up the Pentagon, and then must make you the scapegoat when the war you've orchestrated together goes awry, how is it in the country's best interest to fold your arms, pout, stomp the floor, and refuse?

That's one naive view of national politics you have there.

The only place that I know of that calls a firing a firing is the business world. This is politics; there is alot of face-saving gestures like saying you resigned rather than you were forced out. The other thing I found interesting is that Bush didn't announce Rumsfeld's depature before the elections. It would have taken alot of wind out of the Democrats sails by showing the voters they were concerned with the management of the war and making changes. That probably would not have satisfied the Democrats, but it would have resonated with some of the voting public.

Yeah, realistically, if Rumsfeld's 'resignment' had come two months ago, with an appropriate press conference, the ol' 'heckuva job' (ala Michael Brown) salute, and a fan-friendly replacement, the Republicans would have done much better. Either way, it doesn't matter now, and I can't say that I am unhappy with the election results, even though very little of those results will have any impact on me.

American politics fascinate me. I mean, as screwed up as Canadian politics can get (possibly peaking this year with Stronach and her Conservative baggage from Klein and MacKay, and the Emerson debacle; although, the Mulroney years had their moments), I watch CNN with profound delight, the same way I would watch a second tier drama on CBS. It really is quite entertaining the games that are played on the political front line. Seriously, it is reality television at its finest, and that defeats FOX's entire purpose for existence (especially after they cancelled Arrested Development).

maybe your right. maybe i am naive.
You win. I'm wrong in my thought process. I will keep my mouth shut from now on about any political nature that appears on this board. I am an ass.
But if you want to haer from some other naive people (in the back pocket of your fine Republicans)read this:

All those poor sheep. Trying to save us from the evils of this world. Those stones must be pretty heavy about now.

Ah. The old "Since I have no thoughtful or credible input to substantiate my initial inane ramblings, I will play the 'sacrastic surrender card' and quickly change the subject to divert attention from my naiveté" ploy (a textbook maneuver for simpletons who are compelled to join in with whatever bashing of political figures is en vogue because it provides that air of social awareness and self-purpose).

Have you ever stopped to think, just for a second, that some of us might have a strong distate for the enitre political theatre, and eschew the bulk of the socio-political agenda of even those who most closely represent our individual interests and principles?
