jonprice34 Wrote:Not a live tribute song, but Billy talent opened for Guns n Roses last night at Rogers centre and the lead singer Ben Kowalewicz made mention of Gord Downie and his illness and to keep supporting him ( or something along those lines). It seemed really sincere and I must say, I wasn't expecting to hear about Gord at a G n R concert.
Hmm. Too bad BT didn't break out their cover of New O, from their days as Pezz. Would have been better than anything the Gunners played, no doubt. Then again, I'm sure everything else BT played was already.
Arkells did "My Music At Work" at Pemberton Festival a few days ago, only a 30sec youtube clip at the moment, won't bother posting unless something more substantial comes up
I've been covering WayHome Music & Arts Festival near Barrie this weekend. On Saturday The Arkells did a cover of My Music At Work I was able to hear from the media compound. No video from me at least - too busy prepping to shoot Arcade Fire's headlining set.
Then there was the attached photo from today. Torquil Campbell of Stars had an extra special homemade shirt. "We're doing it for Gord fucking Downie," was one of the first things he said to the crowd as Stars took the stage.
We saw the Odds this weekend at Gateway Music Festival and at the end of their first song, Make You Mad, they briefly teased us with the chorus of Poets. We thought it was a nice little nod to Gord and the Hip.

That school choir one is almost too much to watch, really gets you in the old gut.
The Finger Eleven cover is pretty damn kick ass, one of the better "rocking" covers I've seen! On a side note, anyone remember when they were an almost Chilli Peppers wanna be group called The Rainbow Butt Monkeys?? That was right about when the Hip began to break.

totally. I think I saw them play a show in Kitchener way back when.
My friends always said the singer (at the time) looked like me (at the time).
Last night at the Trews show in Edmonton, Colin introduced "Permanent Love" by saying "this is for Gord." Later, during "Paranoid Freak," he repeatedly sang the chorus of "Inevitability of Death."
