I doubt it. The album has been finished and in the can since last July. Waiting until August would be ridiculous. If I was a betting man, I'd say the 08/04/16 means April 8th, not Aug 4th.

To add to that, April 8th is a Friday, which is the new release issue day to stores. August 4th is a Thursday, so that doesn't add up to being a release date anyways.

My guess is it'll be the entire album. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to do a week's worth of teases and build up all this hype just to make a release date announcement. That would be such an anticlimactic letdown. Then again, this is the Hip we're talking about. They're not exactly known for thinking outside the box when it comes to putting out records, so I also wouldn't be shocked if all we get on Friday is an announcement.

Please, for the love of humanity, let it be the full album. All this teasing and waiting is drivin' me nuts. When Wilco did their surprise album drop last summer, it was just the digital version that was initially available, and then the CD/vinyl versions were released a couple weeks later in stores. My hope is that the Hip are doing something similar on Friday.

Dropping the whole album at once without any singles is a much better way to do it. As someone mentioned on here earlier, dropping singles can kind of ruin an album release if you pick shitty singles in the lead up. It colours your perception of the album before it comes out. It's exciting to listen to a whole album in one shot right after it's released.

I'm still only expecting an announcement about a release on Friday though, with the hashtag and all. "Just gimme the news - 08/04/16" "Ok here's the news, the album comes in out in 2 months"
