Maybe he's recording the song for an upcoming Hip tribute album? Or...and here's the wishful thinking part...maybe the Hip are playing a surprise show to kick off the release of their new album, and they've invited Matt Good to play with them.

I thought Matt Good hated The Hip.
But maybe he said that back in the day when his head wasn't quite right.

He definitely hates the junos, boycotts it every time I think that or he just doesn't care anymore.
Hate the Hip? Not sure he hated them, probably not a fan at the time and he was hating on just about everything back then so it wouldn't be a surprise.

Well, after reading that well reasoned thoughtful argument I'm going to go burn all my albums now.
Thanks insightful music critic.
I'm getting that old feeling again.... :nooooo

Yup, and if I remember correctly, the Hip hand picked the bill for that show. He also played with them in 2008 in Calgary, and during the show Gord was very complimentary towards Good and his band. The only negative thing I ever heard Matt Good say about the Hip was back in the mid 90s when he made some derisive comment about how all of their songs ended with a guitar solo, to which Johnny Fay responded "I don't know Matt Good from a hole in the ground", or something like that. That's as heated as it ever got between the two bands. Years later I remember an interview with Good where he mentioned he was a big fan of Gord's lyrics, and that the Hip were the ultimate Canadian rock band, or something along those lines. I doubt there's any animosity between the two anymore. I really enjoy Matt Good's music, and I'm curious to find out what this is about.
Around the late 90's or 2000 Matt was sounding off like Noel Gallagher about everyone and I think he accused the Hip's or OLP's record company of buying the bands albums to push sales over a million. And someone asked Johnny Fay about it during a web interview and he shot back that he didn't know him and said fuck him.
