With Deer season (rifle) set to open on Monday in my region I was wondering if anyone here is into hunting too, be it for either large or small game. If so, where do you hunt? what are you hunting? and what are you using?
If my hunch is correct I'm sure this will be met with a bunch of "I can't believe you shoot animals" comments. Which is fine. Besides I'm not what I would call a "successful" hunter. For me, it's more exciting being out in the bush and getting that thrill of the chase feeling rather than actually worrying about whether or not I come home with a trophy buck.

I used to "hunt" pheasant and quail at a game farm, but once I moved to Toronto, my game hunting and skeet shooting days came to an end.

im heading up to our cottage on tuesday to hunt deer for the week. we hunt in wmu 60A. its on the east side of peterborough. ive also been hunting pheasant and other small game birds this fall. havent had any luck though.
its funny though, a couple weekends ago as i was driving down the cottage road i saw 6 deer. the last two weekends up there as rifle season got closer, the deer were nowhere to be found. i think they know and all head into the park.

At least you get up and move around Mr. Goulet. Around my parts, hunting consists of staying in one spot with a case of beer and waiting for the animal to come to you.

Last time i tried anything with a shotgun, it was more a case of the only animal i would get would be the one with a dodgy ticker and ended up having a cardiac arrest from the loud bang.
No bloody way i would be able to hit it with my marksman 'skills'
Can't hit a cows arse with a banjo :-(
I figure if you eat what you kill, then hunting is fine by me.

I don't hunt but my relatives do, AND DO THEY EVER! My cousin should become a sniper, he's got deadly aim. He's got more rifles than he knows what to do with. He moved to Alberta a few years ago. One of my brothers moved up there to Airdree to work with him for about half a year and he witnessed my cousin's hunting prowess. I guess he found the perfect province to do his hunting. One time he saw a fox (or something I can't remember what it was) and he was so zoned in that he drove his Jeep Cherokee through a ditch and was so focused that he did a driveby with deadly aim.

My brother in law is a big deer and turkey hunter, as are a couple of my friends. I've never been a hunter myself, simply because I'm a wimp when it comes to cold weather  It's funny coz I love to ski but I can't see myself getting up at the crack of dawn, putting on thermal underwear, hunting gear and orange jackets, climbing up into a tree stand and hoping I get lucky enough to have a deer wander my way. With my luck, I'd fall asleep in the stand and have a couple deer browsing for forage under my tree while I sleep obliviously on!
