New year! New albums!
What are you anticipating this year!?
What is kicking your ass this year!?

I know it's early in the year, but its never to early to discuss what you've been listening to from 2015!

I'll get the ball rolling with an album that kicked my ass on first listen, even though I am not historically a fan.

Marilyn Manson - The Pale Emperor

This gives me huge NIN vibes, and is rockin and catchy as fuck all the way through. I'll admit, I'm not a huge Manson fan by any stretch, but The Pale Emperor may be the launch pad I needed to get into his back-catalog.

I listened to this entire album just the other day and I'm totally the opposite, but as you said you're not a huge Manson fan so I'm not surprised then, its the most mainstream work he's ever done. This album is weak compared to his past efforts, it barely passes as metal or some form of metal imo and that's what pisses me off the most I think. Deep Six is a pretty good song though.

2 stars out of 5 for me.

I haven't purchased much new music yet this year. But here are a couple that are kicking my ass:

Lucinda Williams- Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone. Technically this album came out in late 2014, but I just bought it a couple of weeks ago because HMV had it on sale for $10.00. Brilliant double album. Best thing she's done since Car Wheels on a Gravel Road.

Steve Earle & the Dukes- Terraplane- The first official "blues" album of his career. He's always had kind of a bluesy swagger when he plays with the Dukes, so it's actually kind of surprising he took this long to make a full-on blues record. The results are fantastic. If you're looking for some genuine old-school Texas blues, this is the album for you. Great stuff.

Upcoming albums I'm looking forward to:

Joel Plaskett Emergency- Park Avenue Sobriety Test (March 17th)
Death Cab for Cutie- Kintsugi (March 31st)
Heartless Bastards (new album is officially in the can, but no release date announced as of yet. The band says early Summer.)
Alabama Shakes- Sound and Color (April 21st)
Wintersleep (new album rumored to be released this summer)
The Hip? (it's been about 3 years since Now For Plan A. Don't forget, that album was finished months before it was actually released. So it's been quite a while since they were in the studio. I'm hoping they'll have something new out before the year is over)
Radiohead? (word on the street is that they're in the studio as we speak)

Modest Mouse - Strangers To Ourselves

First album since 2007, and apparently it's the first of two Modest Mouse releases in 2015.

Still digesting it all, but I can already say that this album is streets ahead of 'We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank'.

Hope they make it through Ottawa for Bluesfest, or on their own show somewhere.

Also, I can't wait to hear the new Speedy Ortiz album 'Foil Deer', slated for the end of April. Their debut, 'Major Arcana', is one of my top albums of the last two years, and the EPs these guys n gal have churned out since have been excellent.

I'm always excited for new Plaskett releases as well.

Not exactly an 'Emergency' album (although they do appear on the album).

It's less Truthfully Truthfully/Scrappy Happiness and more La De Da/Three.

Some great tracks on this so far. Can't wait to keep listening and discover more and more layers to the album!

Although i disagree its streets ahead of 'We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank', at least at this point, this is a stellar release and I`ve been listening to the shit out of it since it came out lol. Tortoise & the tourist, Wicked campaign & The ground walks, with time in a box stand out for me. Will be sweet to see another release from them this year!

Still taking this one all in, but my god does Sadie sound amazing on this album so far. They're coming through Toronto and Montreal in June, so I think I may need to hop down to Montreal for the night.

Also, they've been announced as one of the Headliners at SappyFest in New Brunswick this summer. So jealous.
