I don't think the Music Hall attendees were all that impressed by him. But I also don't think people understood what he was doing - they thought he was just some random hipster with a man bun (and then a Where's Waldo get-up) up on the stage throwing on some records.
The amount of hipsters at the show I found quite saddening. If I had a nickel for every beanie touque and pair of black framed glasses I saw, I could have drank all night.

my glasses are prescription!

Compared to what he was doing, I'll take it. I noticed it occasionally but it was nothing like the butchering he was committing before.

this isn't a note for note cut for cut..... and I dont care who's video you watch it is not the same as hearing the mix in the venue...
for sure he still "alters" certain parts 30%-40% of what he was doing but if you listen to We'll go Too, compare escape to last tours versions, Something On, 3 pistols, Pigeon and many others add on the fact the guitar is locked at Downies house for the Tour... you are going to witness and hear the most tame versions of the songs in years ....by the time he circles back around here in Toronto for the arena's should either be in the zone or bored as hell and maybe he goes off the dropoff.... I do predict we get a few versions of songs this Tour based on what they just did that are the best they've done in years..if they continue to hit original style versions of these songs, its not better or worse than jams of the past...just different in a good way for the long time road-warriors over the past 20+ years... and no doubt the part timers who dripped away after phantom power etc.. will love them doing this FC album full on.
I believe the dial has been turned back on Gord's vocal straying and you can see him holding it on many songs... For those that wanna rip him... go see a couple shows this tour and give us an honest review after, just don't expect the CD with lip-syncing type sound.

One thing I do not think was mentioned was in regards to how people at the show won the merchandise during the show (signed vinyl, two T-shirts, etc...)
At the merch table they explained to turn bluetooth on on your phone and The Hip had beacons around the theatre and it would pick random phones throughout the night to win merchandise.
I could be mistaken, but I assume this is a Hip thing and not a Danforth thing so it may happen at every tour stop.
PS, they also said something about TheHip app on your phone you could also win stuff, but I do not have the app so I did not really listen.

I didn't hear them announce/mention anything. My phone had a popup from the app as I approached the venue asking me to turn Bluetooth on, so I did, not knowing what it was about. I hope they do this for every stop, because it's a cool fan experience. Also, I ended up winning twice (as noted, but I'm excited as I never win anything)! I gave one to the dude that got me in – I can't repay him nearly enough!

Not just his vocals, Gord himself seemed dialed back, not as close to as animated as he usually is. Maybe it being a warm up show, he just hasn't hit "full Gord mode" yet. Or maybe its just an age thing too, after all, we are all getting older. A lot more grey hair (or no hair) in the crowd last night compared to the first FC tour I was at.
On a different note, any notice he seemed to spend a bit more time on Paul's side of the stage for the show? Not just that side of the stage, but quite close to Paul at times. Made me wonder how Paul's overall hearing is doing, thought maybe Gord was maybe giving a few cues or something. Maybe it was nothing at all, just a little different.
Yeah, I was just to the right of Rob and he didn't come over past mid-stage. Made for some shitty photo taking.

Brady said he thought he saw a three string at one point, but to be honest we were both a little hazy. I tried to look for it in the video, but it's not on Sinclair at all points, and I just skimmed through it.

I just watched the entire show and I will say without hesitation that GD put MUCH more effort into singing the songs the way they were recorded. Every tour brings a new incarnation of Gord....IMO. This is the GD minus guitar version. The guy has given his soul and vocal chords to us for the last three decades. There is obvious wear and tear on them. However, this show is the best he has sounded in a while. Check out Escape, Courage, Pigeon Camera, We'll Go Too. There is a huge effort to stay on track and not scream the songs. Downie gets passionate and sings the way he feels but you can see and hear, he is trying to stay in "check" to give the songs a more subdued treatment. A big thumbs up here....
