Hockey Night Performance
#16

I was at the show with my wife. The energy from the entire band was fantastic! Gord D sounds great live and in person. He is a consummate performer. He engages the crowd and he is very entertaining. Occasionally his voice gets into the screaming range, but that is due to his emotional involvement in the song and the fact he is feeding off the excitement he sees in the fans singing along.

Dire Wolf Wrote:GD just needs to calm down a touch, with a more controlled energy, if that's possible for him. No different than a hockey player. You get too worked up, too high and can't perform up to capability.

I saw Fleetwood Mac this morning on The Today Show for a live performance of three of their popular songs. None of their lead singers sounded anything like the original recordings. After years of live performances and regular life, everyone's voice changes.

I am so sick of hearing disparaging comments about Gord's voice during live performances. He sings in the range he is capable of and he puts effort and emotion into the performance. I can't ask for more.

He doesn't sing in a range he's capable of. That's why he screams and growls and what-not. That's the point.

After watcing the whole set, I thought it was great, Gord sounded great as always and LEOTR rightfully was on the set because it was a goalie-hockey song which fit well with the theme of the evening... Now if they could do a free concert on Parliament Hill, that'd be nice.

To be clear, I'm not asking him to sound just like the original recordings. Like you I love the passion, emotion, and energy that he puts into his performance. That's what made me fall in love with this band 25 years ago. All we're asking is that he sing in his natural range. Save the screaming for "Fire in the Hole" or "Kids Don't Get It" where that vocal style actually suits the music. I love the guy, but what he's doing these days with the Hip is not singing. When I saw him with the Sadies this past summer in Calgary, his vocals were terrific. And the live clips I've seen from his solo gigs in August sounded great as well. For some strange reason he only does the out-of-key screaming crap when he's with the Hip, and I'd like to know why that is. It's absolutely baffling.

I heard the first few songs in person. To me sounded similar to 2009 or so. At least in Grace, although screaming in parts, he kept in time to the music. On the last tour, I remember him screaming and being behind the band during that song. It was at least better than that.

You can always use a Clip Downloader for Youtube videos. Here is a link with a couple of options.

The only thing worse than the shouting is the ticket prices for this tour....when did the Hip become AC/DC or The Stones?

$374. incl taxes for 2 seats halfway from stage (not on floor), row G, fuck that.

Are they going broke?

Imagine a world before the "beginning was the word.”

Maybe someone at the Hip's management group bought a new cottage in Muskoka or something along those lines. The prices are insane. But, maybe they'll sell out, or wait, maybe they already have. I guess music isn't for those that want it, but, for those who can justify or afford the prices. However, they are not the only band robbing their fans at the box office. It will be interesting to see if they sell out the ACC. I pulled up a single ticket in the far corner for 103 plus the ticketmaster charges. Tom Petty had 10,000 for his show there in the summer, which is likely one of his last tours. I have to think price had something to do with it. I really like the idea of album tours at this point, but, a night out to see the Hip is now $500 bucks once you throw in gas, dinner, etc. For that cost, I want to see Jimmy Page come out with them for an encore.
