Hip collection links and asking prices

but man what's the attraction of getting "sealed" vinyl and just keeping it sealed, sure it may be worth more one day but c'mon PLAY THAT FUCKER

Occasionally when I see people paying huge sums for sealed vinyl on eBay I wonder if they are paying that much $ to gaze at it on the shelf or to open it up and play it. Im with you, after buying vinyl I cant wait to drop the needle on it!

the 'pins' are bit bigger than a bottle cap with the 'safety pin' behind so you can clip onto a jacket or collar. don't know how else to describe it and can't remember where they came from.

on sealed vinyl, i probably bought this stuff in the mid 90s as a lark at the same time i bought the CDs, then shoved the vinyl into sleeves with the rest of my old LPs and forgot about them. i suppose a collector would feel its rare and a 'mint' piece of memorabilia, whereas a fan would just want to play the thing and hear a fresh groove.
why do people collect anything? for the helluva it or to have something nobody else has so you can brag about it.
