Hopefully the Maritimes get a few shows again, the boys haven't played Halifax since 2007, and Saint John hasn't had a show since 2004. Maybe a theater tour?

I think vinyl is a no brainer. One look at the demand and prices on eBay should show the $$$ available to be made. Maybe do a vinyl/cd package: remastered album on vinyl, remastered cd with b-sides and/or demos, plus maybe either a show from that tour on CD or available digitally. Maybe even limit the vinyl to a smallish run to avoid unsold stock. C'mon Hip, do this the right way.

It could be like the Rolling Stones last few re-issues. Re-issuing the album on cd, with bonus left over material that didn't make the cut. Exile on Main Street and Some Girls are examples. That would be impressive. All the rarities and left overs from each cd or certain cds like DFN, TATH, and PP.

They should be packaged with DVDs. There's definetly some pro-shot DVD quality material that has never seen the light of day. Dig into the vault!

Agreed, The chances of any of this stuff happening is about the same as the Jays landing Prince Fielder. It's fun to get your hopes up, but there's very little chance it will actually happen. If they do decide to release some b sides, I wonder if we'll have to sign up for a cell phone contract to get them.

I disagree here...I chatted briefly with Darryl Sterdan, who is the music reviewer for Sun Media. He said he doesn't know anything concrete, but he's heard some very "interesting possibilities" about this subject. Plus, Alan Cross is about as well connected as it gets in Canadian music, so I doubt he'd be one to start a rumor without a solid lead.

Look, I'm not doubting that 2012 will bring some form of reissues from the band. But whether it's the deluxe box set, complete with pro-shot DVD's, an in-depth behind the scenes look at how the band does their laundry?? Doubtful.

Look at what similar bands are doing. We'll probably see re-issues of FC and UTH in CD form, maybe in vinyl and some kind of outrageously overpriced boxset, with a bunch of filler.

I hate to make the comparison again, but with a band like Pearl Jam, who release stuff all the time, they have their finger on the pulse and know what their fans are after. But we haven't heard much from Das Hips in awhile; I can't see the record label making the investment in the kinds of products we're after.

Agreed. Pearl Jam is a tough comparison. That band is huge and rakes in boatloads of cash from all over the world. They have plenty of money to fund cool projects like box sets, blu-rays, and super-deluxe reissues, etc... With the Hip, Canada is really their only safe haven in terms of making money. And even up here the Hip are lucky these days if one of their albums sells 50,000 copies. Sadly, the only people who will be buying any sort of reissue from the Hip are hardcore fans like ourselves and the odd Canadian rock fan in their late 30s looking for a bit of early 90s nostalgia. I'm sure the label is taking all that stuff into account when making their decisions. Unless you're Adele, Michael Buble, or Lady Gaga, nobody is selling records anymore (except for Nickelback, which is a sure sign of the coming apocalypse). I wish the Hip could do what Pearl Jam does. Hell, I wish a lot of my favorite bands could do all that stuff. But I just don't think it's possible. I'll be more than happy if we get remastered versions of the first 4 full-length albums (I don't care much for the EP) with a few bonus tracks and b-sides thrown in. I'd also love it if they re-mixed Fully Completely from the ground up. The production job on that record is atrocious. The guitars have no bite and Johnny's snare drum sounds like a plastic spoon hitting mashed potatoes. Those songs deserve so much better. Especially "Pigeon Camera".

You're right, the remastered versions of the FC songs on Hipeponymous sounded incredible. The entire album with that kind of remastered quality would be eargasmic.

I noticed last week when I was at HMV that they have 6 different Hip Cds on sale for $5 each. Is it because they are movin out the old stock to bring in the new stuff? I have no clue but I did buy Up To Here for the 4th time on CD as it keeps getting worn out and not working. Plus I already have about 3 copies of every CD due to the fact that I bought them all on first release, then I bought them all again when they became "enhanced" with the music videos added to them, and probably all bought the 3rd time each due to being worn out and scratched. I have WC 3 times due to pickin up a signed copy in Erie PA. after I bought it already, then my mom bought me one. I got We Are The Same 4 times due to preorder then freebees at the theater and also I have WATS on LP with free digital download just due to the fact that I buy as much as I can on vinyl. I got some odds and ends of collectable singles in LP and CD formatt. Plus the Heksenketel VHS and the Boxset that I preordered to get the autographed copy. So if they are doing new releases I hope each new release has an accompanying DVD with tour footage from the tour for that CD. Ie, Fully Completly will have outtakes from Heksenketel, Day for Night will have some Heksenketel outtakes also and tour footage, same said for every CD, add a DVD with some concert footage from that tour. If they did all that I would probably end up buying them all again to get that extra footage.
Ya know they have a couple hundred hours of video stashed away that is not "up to par" for the band but us fans would eat shit on a stick to see it.
So give it. Please.
As for an extra unreleased song or two from each session being released, uhhhhh nah that really dont interest me that much. I bought the stones stuff with the new music on it that was held back, its alright but I can see why it was held back.
That all being said, The upcomming tour will be exciting and I hope they follow the same formatt as last tour. 2 or 3 or 4 nights in a row in the same town was AWSOME. I went to 3 shows in 3 nights and it was great.

I'm hoping for that as well. They did a brilliant job mixing up the setlist on the WATS tour, so hopefully they'll do something like that again. I was pretty disappointed when they decided to play the exact same set every night on the 2011 summer tour. With a catalogue as deep as theirs, there's no way that kind of crap should be happening. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed their Edmonton show on that tour despite it being a greatest hits show.
