This was a video that the Barenaked Ladies made in honor of the Hip getting inducted in the Hall O' Fame.

check it. Rather funny, as one would expect from BNL.

Wasn't that video played at the Junos? Or is it just me? I seem to remember the line about the Hip being their older, stoner brothers.

They only broadcast the stoner brothers section during the Juno's.

I followed my own link to the BNL board and spent way too much time reading the bandmembers' blogs. I came across a couple references to the Hip at Live8 in Steve Page's blog that I thought I would share - just in case you don't have hours to waste in front of your computer.

Perhaps this is why I got so choked up watching The Tragically Hip sing “Poets” at Live8. I’ve been slow to catch on, but this band is a true Canadian treasure. To watch Gord Downie sing with such passion these words, I was blown away:

Don't tell me what the poets are doing/Don't tell me that they're talkin' tough/Don't tell me that they're anti-social/Somehow not anti-social enough

And, in a true Gord Downie moment, Steve's conversation with Gord during the Neil Young set:

Watching Neil Young’s set, I noticed a woman in the crowd remove her top, to the cheers of hundreds of men around her. I turned to Gord Downie and said, “Neil’s lovely new song about his country has been hijacked by a pair of tits.” Gord gritted his teeth, shook his head in disappointment and then looked up and said, “No. Augmented, Steve. Augmented.”

that was great! i'd actually seen that before on the bnl website but i just now made the "this isn't the river, it's the killer whale tank" connection.
