The NFL Thread-->Wimps need not enter!

PortlandCarbo Wrote:i hear ya buddy. i just think it would be amazing to go...regardless of who wins - at least it'll be an exciting game! lol, who am i kidding, it would be icing if the hawks end up taking control of the game and winning!...the hawks are going to need to play a brilliant game to get past all of the steelers experience of going to, playing, and winning at the bowl. it will definitely be something to overcome.

The Hawks will need a brilliant game to win, but not because of the Steelers' Super Bowl experience, IMO. Their last SB appearance was a decade ago, and while Cowher & Bettis were both there, no one else on this team was. Holmgren went the two years following the last Steeler SB, so it think experience is negligable.

What does stand in the Hawks way?

1. The Steelers' blitz. If the Hawks have trouble running the football, Blitzburgh will be bringing it all day long.

2. Troy Polamalu. This guy is sick. Might be the most gifted NFL safety I've ever seen. He's so quick he can bait QB's into bad throws, and he provides excellent run support.

3. Ben Roethlisberger. His play in this year's playoffs rivals any QB's postseason play ever. Does this guy even feel pressure?

4. Jerome Bettis. We all know what he can do....but add the emotion of finishing his career in his hometown, in the Super Bowl. Look out.

Doesn't look good for your Hawks, but I do think they could eke out a win IF.....

.....Shaun Alexander gains 115+ on the ground, keeping that Steeler offense off the field. It's the only way as i see it. And i guarantee Dick LeBeau sees it, too.

And making the haul to experience the Super Bowl in person is something I'd normally recommend.....but unfortunately, it's in D-town this year :?

(just a joke, Michganders)

I think it was Bill "Sports Guy" Simmons from ESPN.com who said something like the Super Bowl should only be rotated among 3 cities... San Diego, Miami and Las Vegas (I could be wrong, and I'm just too lazy to look it up to confirm right now).

Anyway, if that is right... would anyone have a problem with that?

Yes I would. I think that it's cool to see what different cities have to offer for the SuperBowl. They've finally brought it up north for this year, but its in a dome. I would love to see a SuperBowl be played at Ralph Wilson Stadium while it gets plummeted by two feet of snow. That would be a game a true champion would play. None of this thirty centigrate in the sun. Or even worse... in a dome with these felt-like mats and no wind.

I once compiled a list of ten things to do before I die. Go to the SuperBowl was on it, but I think I need to update it. It should read "Go watch Indianapolis in the SuperBowl".
Hmm... but then again, it IS things that will happen before I die...

true, it's been alot of fun. all said and done though, i'm glad i didn't go to the bowl. seattle definitely didn't bring their A-game last night - but at the same time, i think there were some highly questionable calls made by the refs.

one thing's for sure, i'm gonna miss my sunday games!

who called Pittsburgh to win the superbowl ?

welll, seeing as i got this one right, i'm gonna go ahead and predict that Canada wins Olympic hockey gold, Team USA wins the world baseball classic, and The Yankees win the Series.

I haven't found any articles on this Joe Montana thing but I heard it on The Score today. They were talking about the reason Montana didn't show up for the introductions of the past SB MVP's. Apparently, Joe didn't think he should have to do it and asked for 100,000 dollars to appear. Opiated, I'm sorry but you're boy Montana isn't looking too good right now.

i was always a bigger supporter of Young than Joe anyways...steve just seems like a cooler guy, and i think if he'd been the starter longer in frisco his career would look even better...i think that's a joke about Joe, but i'm not surprised
