On the Weight trade... yes I agree, great move by Carolina, it makes a deep, offensively talented team even deeper. The other thing it does, is keep him away from one of their main competitors in the East, Ottawa. Anytime you can improve your own team as well as prevent your competition from improving theirs, AND you don't sell all your future to do so, well then you've done a terrific job. Carolina's GM, Jim Rutherford, deserves a lot of kudos for getting this deal done.

I bought tickets to the Philly game early in the season. Forsberg is my favorite player (my relatives from Sweden showed me a video of him stickhandling when he was 16 about 15 years ago before his Quebec days and I was in shock!) and I never pass up the chance to see him play. Anyways, it sucks that he is injured and won't play!

The good news is that I scored a pair of Harbour Club tix with a parking pass for free from my friends family.

This game is huge and I hope we can get out of there with at least a point. If you go to Philly's site, Hitchcok is giving Buffalo a lot of respect. We have to respect them too, even without Forsberg and Johnsson.

I'll be the only one there with a Forsberg jersey and a Sabres hat!

Go Sabres!!!

Columbus 2, Flames 1 in the OT shootout. I think I just threw up in my mouth.

Columbus are one of the hottest teams in hockey right now, and have been for a few weeks now.

Another trade last night, this one sending Mike Leclerc and Brian Boucher to Calgary for Steve Reinprecht and Phillipe Sauve. Interesting trade to say the least. The Flames were able to add some immediate goaltending help, just in case something ever was to happen to Kiprusoff, and Mike Leclerc is a proven 20 goal scorer in this league and adds an elimate of grit to the Flames line-up. Reinprecht should fit right in in Phoenix, he's an average offensive player, but has proved to be very inconsistent, and Sauve is a decent young goaltender with some upside.

The way I see this trade, it was about Reinprecht (Phoenix needed a #2 centre) for Boucher (Sutter was not comfortable with Sauve as his backup) with Leclerc and Sauve thrown in to balance out the salary differences (Boucher makes $900K, Sauve makes $500K, Leclerc makes $1.1 million, and Reinprecht makes $1.4 million). Sure, Leclerc scored 20 goals once, but he's certainly not a goal scorer. And if the Coyotes really wanted Sauve they could have grabbed him off waivers last week.

I find it funny that Phoenix unloaded Nedved - a largely invisible and underperforming centre - and have essentially replaced him with a largely invisible and underperforming centre in Reinprecht. But who knows - maybe he'll get his game back on track in Phoenix.

Didn't Calgary outshoot Columbus 38-20 or something like that? I couldn't decide whether Denis was outstanding or the Flames just enjoyed shooting pucks right at his chest. For all of Calgary's good qualities (and FWIW, they are one of my favourite teams in the NHL right now not named the Maple Leafs), sometimes they remind me of The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight.
