A show for only Hipbase members???
#1

I think this was mentioned by Mav in a post that was lost to our now infamous black-hole...
but let me try and re-spark the thought:

So here I was this morning, driving in to work & of course listening to the hip...and the thought came into my head, I wonder if the Hip would ever play a Hipbase members only show. I know years back Pearljam did this in Seattle for their fanbase - quite flawlessly I might add.

I really don't think it would be that hard to do.

First, they'd need to find a club in Toronto/or wherever - somewhere relatively small - big enough to accomodate us - lets say the limit would be - one member can buy only 2 tickets. Then they'd list the show as already sold out under a unknown name. The trick is this, we'd need MAv, of course, to figure out a way to have only the current members actually have access to this - bc once the word got out - people would join hipbase just to buy the tickets. Anyway, I digress.

I know I would fly out from Portland in a heartbeat to see & be a part of the show. Something meant only for us - a chance for us all to finally let loose together & truly enjoy the thing which brought us all together.

Tell me your thoughts people - The other thing is this, for people like me who would need to grab a plane ticket on short notice (which on short notice is sooooo much money) - I'd need ample time. I'm talking, at least a month.

Seriously though, I would flip out if it worked. Can you imagine it...all of us there - together?!!!! Faces to the names of people we've been in daily contact with for so long. Okay, I'm starting to get way too excited. Gonna go relax now.

TTYL all.
Sarah

This would much welcomed by all of us here, absolutely. From reading MAv's posts i was starting to suspect something like this down the road(but wishful thinking was playing a major role in my mind, i'm sure). Yes, for us out west it would be a $ding$ to get out to toronto, but i'd definitely slap the money down for tickets and a plane to get out east. I agree too that i'd love to meet everyone here from the base. MAv, can you give us any hints or insight into this? Maybe this could be incorporated with the rollout of the new Hip Club, a kind of theHip.com/Hipbase collaboration.

Not to rain on your parade Portland but this is something that has been kicked around a few times here...and to no avail I might add.

Having said that, there's nothing saying that we can't try it again though.

I say they do it on a stage, set up in a farmers field, beside a corduroy road, outside Winnipeg: on a certain Meridian.

And they should open with Montreal, followed by Grace. Kick off the first encore with Get Back Again, and then close the show with a Little Bones/Wait So Long medley.

And then, I'll name each and every one of the monkey's that flew out of my ass.

sorry about that - wasn't trying to evoke anything other than excitement here. i figured somewhere at sometime you'd all kicked this idea around. i just had gotten the feeling from MAv that it something which might actually happen somewhere in the near future.

take care all.

No need to be sorry.

I would be excitied if it came to pass, hell it might even. And what I posted is the kinda show I'd love to see them do for us... they sure wouldn't need to feel pressured into playing the familiar radio stuff. Nobody in this crowd would walk off in a huff if they didn't play NOIS (Okay, maybe Casey would)

I'm just a smart ass, it's what I do. It wasn't a shot.

I think we need a smartass icon. It would be helpful, given the quips and barbs that fly around this board.

a surprise show with prior notification? That just defeats the purpose.
