To j-monster's point, the league tried clamping down on the holding and hooking and clutching and grabbing a couple of years ago, but it didn't last long because, well, there were a lot of penalties and the game sucked to watch. So they didn't see it through.

Right now, I think it sucks to watch from the too many penalties standpoint. But I hope they see it through, as the result will be better hockey.

Except for the stupid shootouts, which are what you get when you let half-wits sign off on decisions while drunk and distracted by a team of Romanian strippers.

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but I really don't like shootouts.

Ah, you're not THAT bad. Sometimes. :lol:

And I agree with you that shootouts are stupid... although like I said, they're darn exciting to watch.

Yeah, the OTLs kind of inflate the records somewhat. A lot of teams are over .500 in terms of number of points gained versus points possible, but some of those teams are actually below .500 in terms of wins and losses, like cfern pointed out.

There are a lot of good teams though... or at least teams that could be good if they clicked on all cylinders. The redistribution of talent due to the salary cap has made a difference in that area, I think.

well, the leafs were robbed of a win yesterday....the puck went in TWICE in OT and we still lost in the shootout...grrrrr

And yet another OT winner from Captain Clutch (and I won't bring up the fact that he scored another OT winner last night at Carolina that somehow was disallowed). Oh, but he's no leader. I keep forgetting. :roll:

I gotta agree with the Habs on that penalty call in Rivet though. To me it looked like he dove for the puck and Antropov crashed into him and tripped, versus him intentionally trying to trip him.

Regardless, I gotta say I'm enjoying these Habs/Leafs HNIC games. It seems that other than a period here or a period there, neither team can dominate for an extended period of time which makes for some entertaining hockey.

BOO, on the penalty!! I can accept defeat, but I just hate losing games like that.

And that Malik goal, that was amazing! Early candidate for goal of the year.

Regular season wins are nice, but I personally see Mats as a failure because he's been captain for a decade, in a hockey market that should foster a winner, and hasn't ever taken them past the second round has he? Hell, at least Dougie got within a game of the finals. Mats is always "full of potential," and I think that's the problem. I'd ship him for youth and give E the C.
