Solve this lyric mystery
#1

There are a couple of backing vocals that I can't make out. The first, from Pigeon Camera is hard to decipher in both the acoustic and album versions. It comes just after what might be a nifty audio-illusion of Gord and Paul's voices coming together to make a "door slammed in my face" lyric, which doesn't actually exist.

"It's boring, (It's boring)
I'm embarrassed, (Embarrased...?)
I don't endorse that; (Slammed in my face)
I didn't want this, (Boring)
It's horrific (Boring)
I'm embarrassed (Embarrassed...?)
I didn't want that (Slammed in my face)
I didn't want this"

The second is the monologue from Poets:

"Don't tell me what the poets are doing (Don't tell me what the poets are doing)
Don't tell me that they're talkin' tough (Don't tell me that they're talkin' tough)
Don't tell me that they're anti-social (Don't tell me that they're anti-social)
Somehow not anti-social enough, all right

(*Paul's monologue: After the first chorus of Phantom Power's "Poets," you can hear Paul delivering a monologue in two parts. The first part ends with: "from the depths of vagueness, am I expected to take this?" It's followed by another line ending with "From the depths of vagueness." If you listen VERY closely, you may be able to hear another spoken-word lyric stretching into the "Don't tell me" chorus. The rest of this monolgue remains a mystery.)"

Anybody have any idea what Paul is singing?

For Pigeon Camera, it sounds to me like Paul is just singing "Embarrassed of this". Don't know if you were expecting something deeper than that... but if you string Paul's lyrics for those two lines (and if you assume the last line starts with slamming, not slammed), it kinda makes sense... "Embarrassed of this... Slamming in my face." That's my guess anyway.

Don't know about the Poets thing... that might take a bit longer to decipher.

I thought it was Gordie's voice "from the depth of vagueness"

Here's a doozy for ya, that one part in Lionized, ya that part....

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

I hear something like:

At the Hundredth Meridian (At the Hundredth Meridian),
At the Hundredth Meridian (At the edge? of the mystery),
At the Hundredth Meridian, where the great plains begin...

For my website, I had them independently verified as best I could, and was able to isolate the vocals which helped.

Here's 100th, the backing vocals take the same theme as lyrics in Fully Completely. It may be Sinclair's voice on a few of the lyrics, and there's an echo effect added after "Trust Me":

At The Hundredth Meridian

Me debunk an American myth?
And take my life in my hands?
Where the great plains begin,
at the hundredth meridian.
At the hundredth meridian,
where the great plains begin.

Driving down a corduroy road, (Crashing through the window)
weeds standing shoulder high. (Through the window)
Ferris wheel is rusting off in the distance.
At the hundredth meridian where the great plains begin.

Left alone to get gigantic;
hard, huge and haunted
A generation so much dumber than it's parents came
crashing through the window. (Through the window)
A raven strains along the line of the road,
carrying muddy old skull.
The wires whistle their approval,
off down the distance.
At the hundredth meridian (Hundredth meridian)
At the hundredth meridian (You're gonna miss me)
At the hundredth meridian (Trust me)
Where the great plains begin (At the hundredth meridian)
At the hundredth meridian (At the hundredth meridian)
At the hundredth meridian (Baby, you're gonna miss me)
At the hundredth meridian (Trust me)
Where the great plains begin

I remember, I remember Buffalo and I remember Hengelo
It would seem to me I remember every
single fuckin' thing I know

If I die of vanity, promise me, promise me,
they bury me someplace I don't want to be,
you'll dig me up and transport me, unceremoniously,
away from the swollen city-breeze, garbage-bag trees,
whispers of disease and the acts of enormity
and lower me slowly, sadly and properly
Get Ry Cooder to sing my eulogy,

At the hundredth meridian (Hundredth meridian)
At the hundredth meridian (You're gonna miss me)
At the hundredth meridian (Trust me)
Where the great plains begin (At the hundredth meridian)
At the hundredth meridian (At the hundredth meridian)
At the hundredth meridian (Baby, you're gonna miss me)
At the hundredth meridian (Trust me)
Where the great plains begin

And here's the Lionized that was asked for:

Cold wind blowing over your private parts
I know a lack you've got
and it makes a strong case for art.
Billboard breasts, they don't have a face,
I know that fact you've got,
no girl could ever trace.
Lionized (Lionized)

Smoking just a little too violently
I know that fact I've got
and I know it single-mindedly
Stupid, stoned cause and effect (Stupid, stoned cause and effect)
I know a lack you've got (I know a lack you've got)
and you don't even lack it yet. (And you don't even lack it yet)
Lionized (Lionized)

I can't draw, but I can trace (I can't draw, but I can trace)
I know a lack I've got, (I know a lack I've got)
an abundance of extra space (an abundance of extra space)
Cold wind blowing over your private parts (Cold wind blowing over your private parts)
I know a lack you've got is to make a strong case for art (I know a lack you've got is to make a strong case for art)

Lionized (Lionized)

Everything else is up on the website. Poets and Pigeon still unknown.
