You can see the improvement from the last album, that one was great too but this one you can tell the hundreds of shows they've played is paying off into better music
Having a producer who produced Aerosmith and a few others provides a change too

15 songs too, 60 minutes of loud rock 'n' roll
Looking forward to it! And 15 songs! Thats surprising, these days most bands can barely put 3 or 4 great songs together let alone close to 10 or more, if its a solid album top to bottom I'll be really impressed. Not that I think they arent capable. Smile

Yeah not too many bands can pull it off, those that do, we get wicked records like this one, in my opinion anyways
Matt Mays & ET's record from this year is 60 minutes or so too, 14 solid tunes

Next one I'm looking forward too is Sam Roberts' new record, don't have a clue of when it comes out though, he's in Buffalo on the 25th with Matt Mays for those of you around the area, free show too, go check it out

I had an out-of-body experience the first time I heard Fearless, and Echoes is another masterpiece...but my point of this post is to affirm that One of These Days is definitely in my Top Five Ass-Kicking Songs of All Time. It simply shreds.

An interseting personal tidbit (and cultural reference) about One of These Days:

Has anyone ever seen the brilliant mini-series entitled Cosmos, hosted by Carl Sagan, based on his novel of the same name? Episode 1 originally aired in September of 1980, and I was fotunate enough to have watched the entire first-run of that series. I was only eight years old then, so some of the concepts were too advanced for me to truly grasp at the time, but one thing I do remember was getting my ass kicked by a small snippet of One of These Days. It was the background score for a scene that included a flyover of someplace in the desert southwest of the US - the imagery was intended to give a visual of how the surface of earth could have looked in early stages of ecological development (or something like that - i don't completely remember the context - it was 25 freaking years ago).

I was so moved by that music that when I had finally heard it for the second time (around the age of 14 or 15), I immdiately linked it in my memory to that Cosmos episode.

Anyway, I was, and still am, amazed by that profound impression left upon me by an incredible piece of music.....and just thought I'd share...

1. White Stripes - White Blood Cells
This concert was so friggin good.

2. Joel Plaskett - Truthfully Truthfully

3. Arcade Fire - Funeral
No matter how hard I try I can't get sick of this album.

4. 54-40 - Yes to Everything

5. New Pornographers - Mass Romantic
Gettin myself in the mood for their new one out tomorrow. I've read nothing but glowing reviews of Twin Cinema.

With the N.P., Constantines and BSS all coming out with new stuff it should make for a sweet fall. Perfect for the next 4 weeks on the combine.

If you want to check out 2 of their new songs, go to their record label at http://www.matadorrecords.com/the_new_p ... music.html and download the mp3s. There are also 2 older ones there.

1. New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
2. Tragically Hip - Trouble At The Henhouse
3. Midnight Oil - Capricornia
4. Oasis - Don't Believe The Truth
5. Sloan - A-Sides Win

Twin Cinema, album of the year so far. While I love the first 2 Pornographers albums, this one blows them away. Henhouse has always been my least favourite Hip album but it has really grown on me the last few months. Capricornia - the Oils went out on top, no doubt about that. Oasis put out their best album in 10 years, and the Sloan disc is just a reminder of how brilliantly consistent this band has been.
