Speaking of Thrush Hermit, In my ongoing pursuit of J.P.E. I just picked up some old stuff from Chapters, Clayton Park and havent been able to stop listening to it :music Standout tracks so far are, Back of the film,oh man, what to do,Violent dreams, the day we hit the coast, headin south,Western Dreamz(Love that one) shit i'd say the hole thing and its just the 2nd day!Any of you who havent heard this cd, pick it up it's some dam good Rock & Roll. Makes one wonder where they would have went had they stayed together, but on the other hand, JPE sounds awesome too :thumb:

JP is amazing, with the hip tour he was good. His solo stuff is great, see him on breakfast tv alot. La De Da is a must have album.

He's great. When he opened up for the Hip here in Winnipeg I thought he was awesome. I didn't have enough money left over to get a CD right there at the show, so I went and got one later at HMV.

Definitely not the same CD, as it's a few years old already, but it's ok. He's definitely waaaaaaay better live. The CD I have is half emo-crap and half solid newfie rock.

If he drops by Winnipeg again I'll be sure to go see him.

HEY PEOPLE!
Been very busy over the past few months in the studio and gigging. Here are some of the projects I’ve been working on that are due to show up over the next few months.

Thrush Hermit – Complete Recordings- 7 DISC BOX SET- to be released on New Scotland. An epic project. Scrambling madly to get it together for the Hermit reunion tour in March (fingers crossed!).



Disc 1- Clayton Park

Disc 2- Sweet Homewrecker

Disc 3- Smart Bomb and The Great Pacific Ocean

Disc 4 – All Technology Aside – 22 songs – outtakes, b-sides and unreleased

Disc 5 – Hits and Giggles – 23 songs – early singles, eps and unreleased tracks

Disc 6 – Embarrass Ourselves Awake – hodge podge of really early material from Nabisco Fonzie, The Hoods, The Hermit and The Tim Robbins

Experience. Truly embarrassing stuff to keep you awake on long drives

Disc 7 – DVD consisting of Learn to Party documentary (1999) and lots of extra never before seen footage from 1990- 1999

Will also include a 24 page booklet with lots of photos and liner notes written by Rob Benvie.

Steve Poltz – “Dreamhouse”. Will be out in April or May on New Scotland both on cd and vinyl. Steve’s tunes are incredible. Psychedelic and personal, hilarious and heartbreaking. Steve rocked most of his guitar and vocals in first takes. Amazing! Produced & recorded at Scotland Yard. I played drums and bass. Steve just broke his hand skiing but he’ll be back with a vengeance soon.

David Myles- “Turn Time Off” due out on April 20th on his own label. I had a great time producing this record at Scotland Yard and we mixed it at Flying Blanket in Arizona with my good friend Bob Hoag (who recorded Ladeda). David’s tunes are smooth and super singable and it’s my most hi-fi production work yet if I do say so myself . His band kicks ass too.

Jeremy Fisher and Joel Plaskett- a month ago we recorded two songs we wrote together for a 7? single on New Scotland. Still waiting to be mixed but aiming for a release in the spring

Had a great time playing MSVU last night with my pa Bill (Happy Birthday Dad!) as well as joining City & Colour at the Rebecca Cohn earlier in the week for a unique version of The Day We Hit the Coast. Warming up up the pipes for the Hermit tour and the Emergency in St John’s NFLD on Feb 26 at Mile One!

that’s the latest! back to work.

I did not know he was a special guest with Dallas this past week, f :censored k i should have tried to go.

Those singles between him and Fisher are going to be cool. Jeremy use to do really local shows back in NB and was a good performer. Think they will be pretty good.

And don't even get me started on that box set.

Set for release on February 17 via Pheromone Recordings, the title track, “Solidarity” is a great summation of their collaboration, both lyrically and sonically. “I wanted a song Dad and I could sing together that connected our individual journeys and our personal politics,” says Joel. “The word ‘solidarity’ came to mind and didn’t leave.”

Bought tickets to the NAC show weeks ago, and the Hamilton show this morning. Can't wait. Saw Joel and Bill perform at the Danforth a few years back and have been anticipating a father-son record/tour since.

As I mentioned in another thread, I had the privilege of sitting directly in front of Jim and Greg from Blue Rodeo at the Secret Path show in Halifax. While talking for a while with those guys and hearing some stories, Joel Plaskett wandered by to say hello to the Blue Rodeo guys. When he showed up a few fans came over and asked for pictures of the three of them together. If Gord had come out into the audience at that moment I could have gotten a picture of the Canadian songwriter Mount Rushmore for the past 25 years (Keelor, Cuddy, Downie and Plaskett for 1990-2016; maybe Cohen, Lightfoot, Young, and Mitchell for 1965-1990). They talked about how they got into the show (Joel said he had to go through the back channels of the Hip camp, Greg and Jim received theirs along with a white band to gain access to the after party), what they thought of Gord, and their future plans. Plaskett talked about the record he recorded with his dad but he said he also had another record with Mo Kenney almost done. I couldn't tell whether he was talking about a Joel Plaskett record featuring Mo Kenney or whether he was referring to a Mo Kenney record that he was producing. My final point is that he talked about having shows booked at Massey Hall in the New Year but I don't see any dates on the above list. Might be Toronto shows at Massey added to this tour itinerary at a later date... something to watch for.

pre ordered the new bill&joel cd from maple music(whom i happen to love)
the cd arrived via regular mail on the exact release date
it wasn't shrink wrapped which i thought was weird
opened it up to the gate-fold and bill and joel had both signed it on this inside !!

just another reason why i love maple music
no mention of the cds being signed when they took my presale order!
