Watching Maverick's video left an unsettling feeling with me, sort of a voyeuristic...discomfort that I get in those pron clips of people taking care of their own business.

I couldn't help but watch but felt like I shouldn't be there...in a hotel room with Gord Downie...at practice with the band...

Just curious to know what Maverick's relationship is with the band (aside from webmaster...) and what his history is with them...how long etc.

My relationship with the band doesn't really matter all that much actually. . . . well I don't think it really matters - just enjoy the benefits, or not, as the case may be . . .

In terms of my relationship with TTH, it would be fair to say:

I've known them off an on
in a mixture of ways
for a variety of reasons
and for a pretty long time.

PPS. I'd prefer not to be the center of attention, thank you very much, it makes me blush and I'm kinda shy, so might I suggest either: "Salmon Fest Video", you know where I'm going with this, or "The new Video" etc.

PPPS. I have this killer idea . . . why doesn't everybody send that clip, well the site http://www.thehip.com, to some friends (or all your friends), and then ask them what they think?

Don't forget to tell them about the live8 clip - Music@Work on the same page.

Then ask them to tell their friends and see what they think . . . . 8)

If Gord didn't want "us" in the room, we wouldn't have been allowed in the room. If the band didn't want "us" on stage, backstage, etc... the clips that MAv posted would never have seen the light of day.

My $0.02... if invested in oil, it would be worth at least $60!

Very well said Mav! I've had at least a dozen of my friends watch the vid and they were ALL blown away - even non-Hip fans (idiots). They've never seen footage like this from other bands. Neither have I, for that matter. Please keep it comin'!

Was just curious to know if you had a prior relationship with the band or are they reserved and apprehensive to have a new face in their intimacy...

No need to get all up in arms, I appreciate your work; and ANY new glimpse into the Hip is welcome, I'm just stating what I felt watching all that. Sometimes I think there's too much testosterone on this board...

I think Gord just is camera shy when he's the sole subject of the lens, or at least that's my impression.

It's like me when I go to a wedding. I won't go on the dance floor if no one else is around, because I hate being the "centre". However, throw a few bodies on their (and some booze) and I'm working up a Downiesque sweat! (I have pictures to prove it......)

Well, Gord's not performing, he's getting ready, so I guess that's why he's like that. His intensity as a person increases as the show gets nearer, as does the intensity of the entire band.

What I am a little up in arms about, is the use of my name in a subject heading that takes the focus off of the music, the band and the content and puts it on me -this is something I am uncomfortable with it and would prefer not to see in the future.

I think from my perspective, this is understandable. I am a facilitator and yes, I see why you might be interested in who I am and what my relationship is and that's why I went back and edited my post. Please try and understand my perspective on this, I would like to be as transparent as possible and keep focused on what is important, namely the band, their music and the content.

Hold a sec, Mav comes here, introduces himself and his role, decides he doesn't want some things released (which I totally agree with even if it is being distributed in a public forum) but to now come and be "up in arms" because I used his name and related it to a video HE shot...c'mon... this guy is a webmaster not in the witness protection program.

And if me speaking my mind is "blowing" it for everyone, then Mav isn't the right person for the job. Heck, he wouldn't HAVE a job if it wasn't for you and me purchasing the records.

As stated before, I appreciate the video he has given us.

Again... you didn't ask about the video; you asked about his relationship, past and present, with the band. None of our business, and it shouldn't be the focus of our discussions.

And with regards to him not having a job if we didn't buy the records... I'm sure he'd have a job, but we wouldn't have this forum, or rather, wouldn't have the need for this forum, or anything to discuss, if it weren't for the masses buying Hip records. Those who frequent this site make up a small, small fraction of the music buying public, but sometimes we, as a collective group of dedicated/hardcore fans, get treated to some insider goodies as a way of saying thanks for being a dedicated fan; a "Thanks for buying or albums, coming to our shows, and supporting us in our jobs" kind of reward. When this happens most try to be gracious and respectful of the source's requests. Unfortunately, every now and then someone puts on their asshat (see this thread for clarification.) and loses sight of reality.

What you said isn't really that offensive, but you are clearly aware of the other threads where MAv has voiced his concerns and requests, but now you choose to rebuke them.

But you're right, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Ok, rocketsan22, I don't think you get it. I am on your side . . .

All I was stating is that I am NOT the focus of attention and don't want to be or need to be. If you don't like the video etc. that's fine. You are definately entitled to speak your mind and you can tell me and everybody else for all I care. . .

In terms of some of your other comments. . . there is this thing called copyright, not sure if you are aware of it or not . . . public doesn't mean "free for all," what ever you think or say. Just be aware.
