it took 4 years but now she's a hip fan
#1

So after 4 years of dating my girlfriend, playing hip nearly non-stop in my car, and taking her to the wasaga beach show last summer, she has finally seen what we all see in gordie and the boys.

For the longest time the only songs she liked were ABAC and Bobcaygeon, but then it was just like all of a sudden she converted and stopped complaining that gord's voice sounds like "a sheep"... regardless, she took all my greatest hits mixes.

Anyway, just thought I'd share some great news!!

I tried at first with my wife, but gave up after two concerts and plenty of Hip on road trips. She still loathes them and I don't bother to bring them along on road trips anymore.

My wife likes a few songs (Little Bones, Nautical Disaster) and tolerates them for me, but I have to admit that she was a great sport about the pre-kid roadtrips we'd take to go see them. I'd rather stab myself in the eye than see some of the bands she likes - especially if it was 3 times in 4 nights, but she did that for me with the Hip back in '02 at the HOB Chi-town shows.

I'm actually pretty lucky ... I introduced my girlfriend to the hip when we first met, then early into our relationship I brought her to a show... so she likes the hip because their music reminds her of the start of our relationship. She's not a rabid fan like us, but she definitely understands why I am.

My parge kinda pee's me off when she kinda compares them with some other kinds of cool music,(I'm like just listen to the dam cd already without thinkin of the dam Bee Gee's :? ) whick is ok i guess becuase I think all great music made is kinda been influenced from other great music. but i guess she does have an appreciation for them just not as rabid as Lammy said. She more actually appreciates the way they conduct their personnal lives and how they are family men, well accept of course johnny :thumb: Like to see that dudes little black book Smile but anyways ya, my old lady diggs the hip :thumb:

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

There's a girl I work with who doesn't like them much, so I've been trying to convert her. And I think it might be working. The other day I secretly threw Ottawa 11/28/04 into the CD player at my store, and she was actually diggin it. She kept asking me about Gord's rants: "does he do that all the time? That guy needs to see a shrink."

Funny stuff.

I lucked out. My gal came Hip pre-approved. Why, she even met Gordie at his poetry reading in town and signed her book. That bit*h! Wink

The only comment she has made is about all the shows I've downloaded from the tracker.... "Is it really necessary to have alll of them?"

I threaten to burn all her Atwood books for the heresy and she usually calms down. Wink

My woman didn't really know them, but I knew I loved her when she, completely out of the blue, quoted DoubleSuicide. Unreal!

Recently I was hanging out with a fellow musician and friend of mine, and we were jamming. He asks me to play something in G he can solo over, and I launch into "Wheat Kings", lyrics and all. Halfway through he stops and is like "Wow, did you write that? That's really good." So I burned him a mix CD and he's totally into the Hip now!
