What bands do you think that the hip should tour with next,

I also think they should tour with either unknown bands or well known bands or whoever. Touring rocks.

[sorry]

I think they should dump the whole "touring with x" concept and just play "evening with the hip" shows from here on in, because I never show up for the opening acts anyway (sorry Joel Plaskett; sorry Derek Trucks; sorry Clarissa; sorry etc.). Only a handful of bands did I ever make an effort to see as opening acts: Rheostatics and Watchmen (and I didn't get there in time) and Chris & Kate. On the other hand, the evening with shows juiced my oranges soooo much that anything that is now not an evening with show is just 40 minutes of a band I wouldn't otherwise pay to see.

so there's my worthless opinion,

???
You know that The Arcade Fire was on the cover of TIME last month, right? If anything, TAF are bigger worldwide than The Trews and 54-40!

I think there should certianly be an opener. The Hip started as an opener, and would not be where they are now if they hadn't recieved a little help. A little band called the Rolling Stones are giving The Hip an opening slot (and have before, to my knowledge). I thought it was nice of them to "throw the Hip a bone". Wink
That being said, I like The Spades...I would be curious to see how Broken Social Scene would do opening for The Hip. But I really think ARA is the way to go.

Yeah, The Arcade Fire are probably the biggest buzz band in the world right now. Personally, I've heard some of the cd and don't care for it but it seems like a lot of people are fans; apparently Gord liked their album from what I heard at the Junos. TAF wouldn't open for the Hip. They are bigger than the Hip right now in the music scene, not in Canada but around the world. Were the Hip ever on the cover of Time?

I have a question. I haven't heard much of Broken Social Scene. I've heard a lot of people write good things about them. Is Brendan Canning formerly of By Divine Right? I noticed him in the CMHOF tribute at the Junos. I'm pretty sure he plays in BSS. Maybe I have names mixed up though.

ARA is the way to go I think. Personally, I loved the Evening With tour but I think it'd be great to have ARA revived. There were some pretty kick ass bands in previous ARA's. Los Lobos, Sexsmith, Wilco, Midnight Oil, Blues Traveller, etc..

I don't think 54-40 should be an opening band for anyone in Canada. They have been around longer than the Hip. The Trews would be good but they are getting bigger now and probably want to headline shows. The Spades sound alright. I'd still love ARA though, with some other big bands and some newcomers.

HDRC
Trews
Sadies
Blue Rodeo
Stereophonics perhaps
Sarah Harmer
Sexsmith
White Stripes (ya never know)

Brendan IS in BSS, with Kevin Drew. Check out the album "You Forgot It In People". It's wonderul. Andrew Whiteman (Bourbon Tabernacle Choir) is the guitarist, too.
The Arcade Fire took me a while to get into, but now I get it. The guy's voice is an aquired taste, certianly.

Don't know if someone already wrote this, but:

Das Hips
Rush
Gordo

How's that for a Canadian railroad trilogy?

Do you mean Goddo?

I think he meant Gordon Lightfoot.

But if Goddo plays, I'll keep it under my hat...

Forget Goddo, we need Gabbo!

And yes, of course I mean Gordon Lightfoot.

What about taking Across the Causeway on the road ARA style? AMAZING line - up! Camping every night 30,000 fans and close friends - band-mates. Would be IDEAL!

It's called 'Perfect Prize', it's getting a tonne of air-play on The Bear here in Ottawa...

I also just got home from seeing Hawksley Workman, I was expecting a generic alt-rock (catchy but boring) show that his radio singles would provide, but he's pretty eclectic, they spiced up some of their 'hits', added some interesting grooves, and played some new material. The guy dabbled in everything from reggae to satanic cult-like death metal chants with the new stuff...

If the Tragically Hip really wanted to go out on a limb and give a young band a new chance, they should really consider touring with a band from New Brunswick called "Grand Theft Bus". They are extremely talented, and have several catchy tunes and are played on college radio here all the time. They play rock, but it is different than The Hip. I have never heard of the Joel Plaskett Emergency before their last tour, and now it seems that everyone is listening to them. Everyone here should check out Grand Theft Bus, I think. Their website is www.grandtheftbus.com . Or if The Hip wanted to tour with someone who people have heard of before, I think it would be awesome if they toured with Matt Mays + El Torpedo (as was suggested earlier). Matt Mays is pretty solid, and would probably draw some fans just for him. Then they'd stick around to see The Hip and become converts  .
