New Hip Directory
#1

You asked for it, (well, three of you did anyway) and now you've got it. Somebody call the doctor, call the vet, cause the Hip Directory is what you get. Alphabetically ordered for your enjoyment. One hundred and God knows how many Hip references singled out and listed. Hopefully an improvement on the outdated FAQ list. Every person, place and thing ever referenced by the boys.

Here's how she looks... I'm not going to transfer the hyperlinks (which can be found on the actual directory) cause I'm a lazy son of a bitch, but if you're on this site, you already know the score anyway. Try the veal.

So instead of doing the laborious but productive research he obviously enjoys for the benefit of rabid Hip fans everywhere, he should instead spend it being endlessly nagged to shop, "do things", and watch romantic comedies ad nauseam?

I'd like to address 2 things...First of all, Stephen...excellent work, once again. I'm sure I'll use this reference guide more than once. Secondly, not all girlfriends nag, nor do we all like chick flicks. Granted those are few and far between, but we do exist, I promise!

There is the added benefit of getting to enjoy the company of the female species...and if you're lucky you just might get to "practice" on the real thing rather than the alternative...which leaves you with calusces and a distinct increase in lotion purchases.

Hey, Dame how about Niagra Falls from "A Beautiful Thing" from IVL

I gotta find that 'Filles du roi' thing. I've got someone in my family tree who is a 'Filles du roi'!

BTW, how about "The Watch That Ends The Night" for "Courage"?

and BTW, Goulet. IMHO, a relationship is not the end all be all in life. Maybe he's too busy for one, he doesn't want one right now, he hasn't found the right woman, or maybe even he doesn't make that a priority.

Or he could be spending too much time reading one of the many many drafts of my novel which IS a romantic suspense novel Tongue Though I'm more of a Stephen King fan. It just happened like this. Blame Hugh Maclennan and the hip Tongue

Seriously though, we do not constantly nag nor do we always watch sappy movies. I find my taste in movie is better than my boyfriends'. He just HAD to see Wimbeldon *BARF* worst cheeziest most predictable movie EVER! Some people on here who just HAPPEN to be male nag more than any woman I've ever met.

I know we all love Stephen and for some reason we love to bust on him.

Firstly: Congrats, Stephen. There is no word in the English language to describe my gratitude to you. So i'm forced to invent one. That word is Scrumtrulescent.

Secondly: Probably not the best place to put this, but dammit I want a reference explained:

on Eldorado, what the hell does "hooved a doo" mean? You explained "toonie to the busker" in HBPT, is this just another piece of Canadian slang, or something else?

Hey

Great list, but I don't think nautical actually deals with the Bismarck. I think it's a reference to the failed canadian landing at D-Day. Could be wrong though.

You mean the failed landing at Dieppe. Canadian soldiers did exceptionally well on D-Day.

I remember reading on another fan page (now defunct and can't remember whose it was) that Nautical was based on the Gallipoli campaign during WW I, in which 5,000 Canadian and British troops lost their lives because of bad planning. Personally, I think the song was written with Dieppe in mind but I wanted to put this out there to verify. Thoughts?
