I served Johnny Fay at work last night....
#1

Just got in from work, and who would be there for dinner, but Johnny Fay. Here's the really embarrasing part. I didn't realize it was him until the end of the night (5 self inflicted tool points...), when another waiter said "that's the drummer for the Hip." I said "no it isn't..." my friend replied, "yes it is...look at him". Damned if it wasn't. His girlfriend was walking by thanking me for the evening, and I asked "is that Johnny Fay?". She said yes, and I told her I couldn't believe it...I'm one of the Hip's biggest fans, and I didn't realize it was him...." She walked me over and introduced me to him. We talked for a few minutes, and I asked him for an autograph (totally unprofessional at the restaurant, but I didn't care at that point in the night....) He grabbed one of our linens, and said he wanted to sign that. I grabbed a sharpee marker, and he signed it.
He said he wanted to check out the kitchen, cause he had seen the "opening soon" program in which Bymark was shown under construction. I took him back & introduced him to one of our junior sous-chefs (most of the kitchen had gone home by that time) I thanked him again & shook his hand. A very pleasant, nice, generous guy. When I told him I'd seen the Hip 13 times, he thanked me for the business....
All in a night's work eh?
Oh and also Matt Stone (Southpark) & Alex Lifeson (Rush) were in my section.....crazy night Smile Smile

Great story. Nice when one of the members here happens upon a Hip member. I'll have to hit your restaurant next time I'm in TO.

I think he said Bymark, which is downtown T.O. I haven't been there but I have walked past it, Posh business type restaurant.

It's a mixed crowd. We just opened the patio last week, which has a less formal atmosphere. Here's the website:

VERY COOL!
I have an autographed picture of my daughter and Johnny at one of the early Joe Show's. He drew the drum set on it as well. Memories to cherish forever!

It was a few years ago now, back when I was in Kingston and lived across the street from the Toucan on Princess--but Mr. Fay walked by me with his then girlfriend as I took a smoke break from my cheap f'ing apartment.

My girlfriend tried to decorate it in the Sante Fe tradition...

Well, the first part was true.
