The Holiday Inn in China Town on St. Urbaine is not only cool and Vegas-style themed, but it's right next to Old Montreal, the Palais Des Arts and the Bell Centre and it's relatively cheap.

any ideas in this thread is welcome, beanmedic and I are heading to Montreal in july and are looking for hotels
Chancellor, check your pms and if I have the money and the time at that point, I'd be willing to come meet you guys, I'm only 2 hrs away from Montreal, 1 hour if I stay with my family. Driving to Montreal is nothing to me.

Since I always drive out there, I usually stay at the Best Western by the airport. It's never full, it's clean, and it's cheap.. It's on Cote De Liesse, and it's right off the highway going into MTL.. It's about 15 mins out of downtown..
Also, for right in downtown, Le Nouvel Hotel is pretty decent also, if it's not booked...

Parliament is for tourists and political and history geeks like me. Too many people think Ottawa ends there, but it's only just beginning.
And while Montreal is world class in every way, it does not have the natural beauty of rural Quebec and the Gatineau Park which are all literally walking distance from downtown Ottawa.
And $$ should never be a problem... I've got a futon!
...and I only charge $45 a night.

Ottawa is the greatest city in the world...
oh, and in terms of Montreal hotels, there is a Travelodge just off St. Catherine's I've stayed at a couple of times... sure, the beds fold off the wall and the complimentary breakfast tastes like dog food, but thats where the prison-parrallel's end... and it was relatively cheap, like $80/night...two blocks from the Jazz fest in the summer, and three blocks from half-a-dozen strip joints... I'm sure Montreal has the most strip-clubs per-capita in North America... can anybody confirm this?

the problem with ottawa is Unibroue isnt brewed there, neither is Dieu du Ciel. Its mostly a beer adventure, and well Ottawa doesnt have these breweries

I've stayed at Clarion Suites each time I've went during the Formula 1 Grand Prix. I think it's on de la montagne if I'm not mistaken... about 5 or 6 blocks from downtown I believe. It's a bit pricey, but we had a kitchenette, 2 bedrooms, and when theres like 5 or 6 ppl in a room then the price gets spread out... so the cost is justified to an extent.... I think it is 260/night regular, but was 360/night during the grand prix weekend
