wow, couldnt wait to get home from work and listen to this album again and again and again...it just keeps getting better.

Right now I say Rink has the best intro of a Hip song ever. And Fly is amazing, these two songs are instant favorites for sure.
And I will admit after many listens now, that In View does have its place on the album and Im starting to warm to it, I still think its weak compared to the rest of the album.

Is it the 17th yet???? :jump

Alrighty, after absorbing this album all day I have decided that this is the best record they've done since Day for Night, and easily the best album I've heard all year. There isn't a single dud on the entire thing. Every song leaps off the speakers with so much energy and emotion, and Gord's voice is unbelievable. It's the best he's ever sounded. Congratulations, boys. Once again you've blown me away. I can't wait until the 17th so I can drive around all day with the album in my car.

Long live Das Hips!!!!

Ok im not listening to the album till its my hands but i am curious. As someone who loved music at work and IBE will I like this? Or will it dissapoint like Pearl Jam's latest? Like I'm a little concerned when we keep saying things like "this could sell in the US". I just hope the album isn't mindless drivel. All though if it was you'd think that atleast a few of you would be bitter. So have I answered my own question? Big Grin

Well I made the mistake of expecting too much and downloading some of the leaks. Maybe in time I'll be able to experience it more as a whole then seperate songs, but that release didn't feel genuine to me. I'm also more of No Code, Riot Act, Binaural and Vitalogy fan. Also I think it's fair to expect a lot from bands like pearl jam and the tragically hip. Am I gonna like this cd?

That depends. I think the new Pearl Jam album is easily the best thing they've done in years, so obviously our tastes are going to differ somewhat. But I'll give you my take on World Container anyway, and then you can give it a few listens and decide for youself. For the most part, I'd say the new record presents a more straight-ahead "rock" sound than previous Hip albums, but there are a lot of interesting things in there that they've never done before: layered guitar overdubs, piano/keyboards, lots of background vocals, the xylophone on "In View". I initially thought that Bob Rock's glossy production style would fuck up the Hip's sound, but thankfully I was dead wrong. The album sounds incredible. It's got a big, loud, crisp sound that suits the material perfectly, and Gord's magnificent vocals are nice and high in the mix (unlike IBE). In the end though, when it comes to a band like the Hip, does it really matter who the producer is? Not really. It's the songs that matter, and in my opinion this is one of the best collections of tunes these guys have ever written. Songs like "Yer Not The Ocean" and "The Lonely End of the Rink" are instant Hip classics that in my opinion rank right up there with their very best material. Overall it's a very focused and cohesive album, and I think it flows beautifully.
