hey all
does anybody know where and when the hip played their biggest concert? how many people? and any other facts about how the band got together and history? Thanks in advance!

I'd say it's Winnipeg 2001 which was 80,000 people or pinkpop festival which was like 250,000 I think.

220,000 is certainly an exaggeration of the woodstock crowd. They were the first band that day and if there were over 50,000 people watching i would have been suprised.

I was at Woodstock '99, your figure is way off unless you meant 400,000 or 40,000 Canadians.

this isn't the biggest crowd they ever played too, but one of them indeed:

EdenMusicFest, a three day festival in July 1996 at Mosport Raceway in Clarington, Ont, had close to 65000 paid tickets, and thousands more that jumped the fence and found "alternative" ways in. There were several media outlets that reported 80 000 unconfirmed in attendance for the HIP, who had the main headliner spotlight, the last band on the saturday night.

a great festival it was, aside from the riots that engulfed the racetrack on the final day after party-goers were told that the "suprise act" would not be playing.

To go along with Jamie... they played to 80000+ at the WarChild Benefit in Winnipeg on September 16th, 2000. I was one of them. That has, to date, been their largest Canadian crowd ever. Read the reviews here:

No. They were the first band that day BUT before the end of the set there were just as many people in front of the stage as there was for any other band on the bill. I was there. There was more than 50,000 before they even came out. As long as bands played there was at any given time at least 100,000 people for each stage, it was Woodstock!
